The husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. We had a 2nd floor, lake facing balcony room. It could not have been more perfect! We were right next to the lift bridge so we could sit on our balcony and watch boats go in and out of the channel as well as people watch as people walked on the 'Lakewalk". The service was fantastic from check in to check out. The breakfast every morning was nice. Scrambled eggs, sausage, waffles, etc. It's a little on the pricy side but for the location it is well worth it. If you're staying in Duluth and want to stay in Canal Park, I'd highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a lake facing balcony room.

What a great place to stay if you are there to sightsee on Canal Park. We were a party of three. One was my elderly mother and it was perfect to be able to leave for a while, do some shopping, then return to pick her up to go out and eat. We rode the bikes and were able to pick her up at the hotel and then drop her off again after we rode the circuit. The beds were nice. The rooms are not spacious but fine for a short visit. We stayed in a handicapped room and the shower was perfect. Clean and new.
Be sure to sit on the front veranda and enjoy the view.

Room Tip: The best rooms are on the lake side, of course.

Greetings! I agree with you that our hotel is in a prime location for all there is to see and do in the Canal Park area. I am glad that you found our accommodations for your mother to your liking and that you were able to enjoy the bikes for rent located next to the hotel. That is a popular activity for many of our guests. We hope you will come again soon!

The motel is nice and has a good location. You pay for the location. Upgraded my room to Lakeview for $20/night plus tax. Checked on my Choice Privilege Points and the check out clerk said no points due to me using Expedia to book and prepay my room. What a deal for Choice Hotels! Use my prepaid room money and don't even credit y account for the points. Sti;; a good motel and location.

Room Tip: Book from this motel by calling the motel only and hope that you get the best price possible because...

We got a free upgrade to lake view room just by asking. We had nonrefundable reservation and they refunded one night because my husband was ill. View was unbelievable for the price. So lovely! Even thought they don't have a bar, they served cocktails and snacks during happy hour.
So many restaurants and sights right outside the door. You can walk to every thing. If you want to rent a bike, you can do that right next door. We had patio seating to watch the lift bridge at Grandma's on a perfect afternoon.
Staff were smiling and welcoming.

Our family of 4 had a wedding to attend at the DECC so wanted a lakeside hotel. It was pricy but we had a wonderful time. Best beds for sleeping ever and the view, boardwalk, food, etc. was excellent! We could walk every morning and saw beautful sunsets and sunrises. We liked our first floor room for the convenience of not needing to haul things on their elevator but rooms upstairs are beautiful too.

Room Tip: Rooms on the lakeside are worth the additional money.

It has been several years since my last stay. This time I was here with my husband, meeting his Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin who also stayed at the Suites. We were allowed to choose which floor, and went for the top, stating we would like the best view possible that was available. We had arrived first, and were a little disappointed that our room was further away from the canal than our relatives who arrived later. I guess we should have been more specific in our definition of view. I think being as close to the canal as possible offers the best view. Don't get me wrong, you can't go wrong looking out onto the lake. We enjoyed walking down by the pier, took in the free museum, watched some ships come in and out and then had dinner together at Grandma's (see separate review). The next morning we enjoyed the bountiful breakfast, choosing to eat outside on the patio overlooking the lake. Can't get much better than that! It is a bit pricey, but you pay for the location.

Room Tip: Water side, closest to the canal as possible. If you can swing it, they have balcony rooms available...

Thank you for returning to the Comfort Suites Canal after so many years of being away. I am sorry that we couldn't have you and your relatives all together. We do our best to accommodate all requests but are often in a position when we are so full that we have to priorities. But I am glad that you enjoyed the view. We hope that you won't stay away so long this next time!

Has been going down hill. Very average service, very poor room cleaning, high price, great location. Lots of hallway noise. Crowded breakfast area and average quality. Very late room cleaning. Look around for other options.

Room Tip: Lake side, second floor

Thank you for your comments on Trip Advisor. I am so sorry that we did not meet your expectations. I would like to discuss with you your experience while at the hotel. We certainly try not to have just "average" service and if you feel that we did not meet your expectation, we need to make it up to you. Please call me at the hotel and ask for the general manager. Remind me of your posting on here and let's see what we can do to make a much better experience for you in the future.
