“Quick trip turns into fantastic mini-vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

Don't want this to sound like the Penthouse Forum but "I never thought this would happen to me". Attending niece's wedding up in Two Harbors and just needed a place to sleep for the night. Did the Priceline dance and got a good rate at Comfort Suites. We drove in from North Dakota understanding that check-in was at 3pm, 35 minute drive to wedding, wedding at 4:30...we would be cutting it short. Arrived in Duluth at 2pm and hoped that Comfort Suites staff could get us into a room a liitle early to allow us to shower and change into wedding attire. Explained the situation to two young people working the desk (you know who you are and I love you guys), and they did more then I would expect. They took care of us and did so with such charm, warmth and enthusiasm that I wanted to adopt the two of them right then and there, take them back with us to North Dakota, set them up in our son's old rooms upstairs and let them know that the grass should to be cut, the house needs to be painted and the garage door needs repair. Needless to say, we cleaned ourselves up, got to the wedding in plenty of time and enjoyed our evening with family.

After the wedding drove back to Duluth, changed clothes and took a walk along the lake. Came across some astronomers with telescopes who allowed us to view Saturn, the moon and stars (so cool it made us hug). Went to sleep later in clean, fresh and comfortable bed and awoke to the sight of ships entering the harbor. We dressed and went downstairs to enjoy our complementary breakfast that delighted my ever expanding waistline, all while reading the free Sunday paper that the property provided ( who gives free Sunday papers to it's guests ) ?? Spent the rest of the morning enjoying the beauty and pageantry of the Canal. Thank you Comfort Suites for turning a rushed sleep over into a mini-vacation. Love you guys!! We will be back.

Room Tip: If you don't like this property you are an idiot !

Wow! I am excited to hear that we helped turn your quick trip into a mini-vacation! I will agree that our front desk staff are excellent at helping to make guest stays more than just a hotel stay but a wonderful experience. Lake Superior just has a presence about it that helps people to breath deep and relax. We look forward to seeing you again!

My husband & I spent 2 nights here & had a lake view room. Nice clean friendly hotel. Bed very comfortable & good choice at breakfast. Great location to watch the big 1000ft ore carriers come into Duluth & see the canal bridge raise up to allow it entry. We ate in Bellisios Italian Restaurant - good food but expensive & at Grandmas Saloon & Grill - good food & good value. Good ice cream from Granmas Ice Cream Parlour!!! We did the Skyline Parkway Scenic Byway drive but a lot of it was closed due to roadworks as result of a hard winter. However we found the North Shore Scenic drive which was really beautiful.

Room Tip: Book a lake view room so you can see boats come in

Greetings! It sounds like you had a wonderful time in the Duluth area. Thank you for your kind review of our property. One of the very most favorite things that people do when coming to Duluth Canal Park is to watch the huge ore boats come into the Duluth Harbor. The hotel is just steps from the entrance to the harbor and the boats must go under the Ariel Lift Bridge. The bridge itself is a historic icon in the Duluth area. We get boats and ships from all over the world and many people come to specifically wait for them to come.

So glad that you enjoyed a few of the area restuarants in the area too. Grandma's is perhaps the most famous but all of them are great!

Some of the scenic drives are quite spectacular. I hope you were able to get to Enger Tower for a beautiful view of Duluth and Lake Superior. Thank you so much for staying and we hope you return soon.

We LOVE this hotel!!!! It's the only place we'll stay while visiting Duluth! Super friendly service, nice pool, close to everything you need, rooms are really nice and big, it was PERFECT for our family! I love being able to grab breakfast in the morning and head out to the water!

We had a room on the 2nd floor with a balcony facing the lake. 2 Queens plus the pull-out couch was plenty of room for our family of 6...my children are 8 & 6 (triplets) but even older children would have had enough room. The room included a microwave & small fridge which was great for us since we picnic our lunches out of a cooler every day to save money. The breakfast is great, but there are few fruit options. The waffles were a little soggy, but still good. Love that they had a egg & meat option every day! We needed that protein for busy days of climbing and hiking. The location is the best part of this hotel...it cannot be beat!!! We literally laid in bed & watched ships come in; or we stood on the balcony and watched ships in the pier channel; or we walked 5 minutes over to the pier itself. Food, shopping, rocks to climb, biking, canal park, etc...it's all right outside the door. This was our 2nd time staying here & I can't imagine staying anywhere else, unless the prices continue to rise...then we will be forced to. :-(

Room Tip: On the lake side of the hotel, every other room is recessed back a bit so the view is slightly obstr...

It is my hope that you couldn't imagine yourself staying at any other place than the Comfort Suites when in Canal Park. It sounds like your family did alot of wonderful activities while visiting here. I am glad that our breakfast gave you the energy to enjoy hiking and rock climbing. I think many guests are surprised by the beautiful hills we have around us that give us vista views of the Lake if you are hardy enough to climb them. I can't guarantee that our prices won't rise over time however, I can tell you we will always be priced correctly with our competitors. Canal Park is a destination in itself and in high demand. We look forward to your next family vacation!

Had a great room on the second floor facing the water fountain and shops. Was in room 241. Had a nice deck and tons of room. They had one of the best complimentary breakfasts I have seen in a while. My room had two double beds. The room could be closed off to the living room. Room came with two televisions, fridge, microwave, small prep area, and a nice bathroom.

My husband and I stayed here and enjoyed it. The room was clean, decorated nice and spacious. We had a lake view and it was worth the cost. We watched ships come in and I took pictures of the sunrise from my balcony. The location was great and close to so many restaurants. I will stay here again.

Room Tip: Stay in room 350 with a lake view and a balcony!

I stayed here about 2 weeks ago just for a single night while on a shopping trip. The location of this hotel is magnificent. Right on the lake, next door to numerous restaurants, the canal and walking distance to all the cool shops downtown.
The staff at the checkout and during the breakfast were super friendly. The continental breakfast had tons of selection and a perfect space to eat- overlooking the lake.
I also used the pool while here- which was good and opened late. And it had 2 hot tubs!
We didn't stay in any upgraded room, but it was still nice and had all the amenities we needed.
