“Basic place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

This property served our needs for a overnight place to stay. The biggest downside is hot water. The clerk advised to due to their water system, one has to run the it for several minutes before the hot water kicks in which seems to be wasteful.

This property is older, the rooms smaller, less in-room amenties but the convenience of being downtown, near canal park businesses and yet a fast drive up hill to the mall make it a good choice for the money. My double queen room very cramped, very glad I was traveling solo as more persons in the room would have been tricky to move around. Bed comfortable with a good mattress. The comp breakfast was surprisingly ample, even with hot entrees. If driving a larger vehicle ask about the parking in the rear of the building, the main parking near the office of the motel is tricky to use as it is on a slant and small space between rows. I had a good price utilizing a coupon book from local tourist infor center.

This slightly older motel had very clean and nice rooms. The desk people were very nice and capable. There is no elevator and the place is built on a hill with plenty of stairs so get a ground floor room if stairs are a problem. There are some places to eat within a few blocks. The nieghborhood seems OK. The breakfast was OK with boiled eggs, hot sausage, and the usual juice, drinks, cereal, rolls. Some rooms have a fair view of the lake.I will stay there again. If you are in Deluth be cretain to visit the excellent railroad meuseum which is about six blocks away.

A really rundown motel. The room heaters are unbelievebly loud and run off and on all night. Didn't appear to be cleaned recently. The staff definitely didn't want to be there and was rather unhelpful. There are other places in the area close to Canal Park that are just $10 bucks or so more a night and would be incredibly worth it.

No hot water. Noisy heating unit. No parking, room was very small hardly any room to walk around the bed. I let the water run 10 min and it still didn't get hot. Spend the extra money for better lodging people. This place should have been torn down years ago. Good place for party teenagers.

Downtown Duluth is an interesting place when outside of Canal Park area. It is gritty, and I use the term as a positive. This is not Canal Park lodging, pricing is lower but not cheap. There are are variety of places to eat in walking distance. Keep in mind that the city, outside of Canal Park and Park Point, is not flat. The descent to Lake Superior from Skyline Parkway is steep.

Back to the motel review... The building is a weird 70's thing, ugly exterior, IMHO, built into the hill. This means the parking lot is not flat, not a big deal unless it freezes and ices, which it did when I was there. Room was basic, furnishings also. My main issue was with the heating/cooling, a window unit, very noisy, especially when it kicked on, and second night there it was quite cold and it went on and off constantly.

You have to be kidding. It is an old broken down motel with even the room doors opening to the outside. I thought I was lost in the 60's. The heater was noisy and hardly kept up. The decor was outdated. The walk to the ice machine was scary.
Time to tear the old place down as it is not one of those quaint places where old means comfortable.
