“Great Family Hotel for fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2014

We stayed at the Edgewater August 23rd-25th with our 11 and 8 year old kids. We had a suite so the kids had their own sleep area. The exercise room is excellent, it is new since our last visit as was the equipment. The breakfast had a variety of different foods and was convenient as you didn't have to leave the hotel. The water park is nice and has a lot of different things for the kids to do, including 2 large waterslides. The front desk staff were very friendly and check in was super fast.

We will definitely go again.

Room Tip: Staying on the first floor makes it very convenient to go to the waterpark.

I have stayed at this hotel many times before Got a room street side in the older part lower level, found toilet not clean, blood or snot on a pillow and soap from last guest in tub. also the air conditioner not working that was fixed right away , notices the other later that evening it was booked full but after talking to operations manager she was very accommodating. as this wasn't what we have experienced in past stays how ever if I had a poor room experience it has been in that section of the hotel . they have good food in house . it is always best to bring up any problem when found that gives them an opportunity to address it in a mutually beneficial manor .

My family of seven stayed at the Edgewater Aug. 22-24 and it was a less than wonderful experience. I will admit that I have rather high expectations when staying at hotels but this one took the cake. The waterpark was so poorly maintained that each of our kids and my husband ripped either thier toes open or their heels open on the floor of the pools. Living in the cities, we go quite often to the Waterpark of America at the Radisson by the Mall of America and the bottom of the pools are nicely maintained so your feet aren't torn apart but not the Edgewater. Swimmers beware. The rooms were clean but had the "old motel" smell that you just couldn't get rid of no matter what you did. We had a suite because of our large family and there was AC in only one room. We called for maint. but no one ever showed up. The room with two beds had to be kept freezing just so the kids wouldn't suffocate in the other bedroom. They also advertise breakfast. Unless it's free to you, skip it and go out for breakfast. The food is just ok but it is served in a half conference room with long cafeteria tables. There is nothing relaxing about eating breakfast in a huge room with screaming toddlers at the end of your table that apparently only you can hear because the parents were oblivious. Needless to say, if you are looking for a better class of people, you need to stay in a better class of hotel. This was our kids' first visit to Duluth and they couldn't wait to leave. It was difficult to do anything after the first night since their toes and feet were in such bad shape from the water park that the nine year old could barely walk the next day. I rarely write neagtive reviews but this hotel is just old and nasty. Do yourself a favor and stay at a nicer hotel in Canal Park and enjoy what Duluth has to offer...this waterpark hotel is overpriced and dangerous.

Waterpark itself is great, but has some odd rules like, "You can wear t-shirts to swim anywhere else in the park, but you can't go down the waterside wearing one." But it seemed pretty fun, and safe.

Rooms are fine but falling apart a bit. Staff was pretty good all around. Breakfast buffet was cheap, but there was almost nothing my gluten-free son could eat there.

If you're on a budget and want a vacation with the kids, you could do a lot worse.

We recently stayed at the Edgewater Hotel with our grandson. We had a fabulous stay with beautiful weather so took advantage of using the outdoor pool. During the afternoons, everyone must have been out sightseeing, because we had the pool to ourselves which was great! The rooms were very clean; the beds were very comfortable. The staff at the front desk and lounge were outstanding. The staff member who helped organize sightseeing trips was very helpful and even suggested events we didn't know about. The exercise room has excellent/new equipment. Overall, our stay was perfect! Our grandson, who is a teenager, had a great time at the pool and miniature golf course. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We had a balcony room on the 2nd floor. Even though it faced the highway and then Lake Superior, it...

We travelled as a group of 8, my sister and her family and my own family. We stayed in one of the big family rooms all together as that was better value for money.
Check in was easy and fast, luckily we were on ground floor so was easy to find room and was just around the corner from the waterpark.
Rooms were dated but clean and spacious. Two rooms divided by a door. First by the front entrance had a large bed, tv and bathroom with a shower, toilet and sink. Second bedroom had a bath with shower and toilet. The sink was in the main bedding area which was strange?! The big area had a sofa bed and two doubles. Fridge and microwave and led onto a small patio. View was beautiful facing the lake, it was a shame that we were next to a family who were constantly smoking on their balcony which meant we couldn't enjoy it as much! - would suggest smoking on balcony's was banned?
Bed were actually quite comfortable which was a first for me at a hotel!
Water park was fab! Something for everyone we had kids ranging 12-1 and all were throughly entertained. Only gripe is done eat there... Waited 40 mins for a portion of wings when I was told 10 mins and they were not worth the wait :(
Free towels to get dried and late opening time of 10pm. There are rooms which overlook the waterpark, not sure I would like to be in those as it is pretty noisey.
All staff were helpful including the lady set up outside reception to offer discounted tickets to local attractions. We got the north shore train tickets with good discount ( but give it a miss!)
We paid for breakfast in the Tiki buffet, well worth the money. Pancakes with lots of toppings, sausage, eggs, cearal, oatmeal, toast, bagels and fruit. Coffee was ok but can't complain too much as my kids ate their weight in food so was well worth the money! ( avoid Perkins next to hotel) we always found a spot to eat and food was replenished pretty quick. We took some gluten free waffles for one of us who is intolerant and used the toaster to heat up.
All in all would stay again without a doubt and highly recommend for a central place to stay and waterpark is huge bonus for keeping kids (and adults) entertained.

My family including my brother and sister in law, mom and dad and two daughters and hubby have made the Edge and Bentlyville a family Christmas tradition and will continue to do so. The rooms are comfortable and everyone lives the water park. Tiki toms grill has some tasty food and pizzas. Great place to stay in Duluth for families!
