“Great stay - great price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

It is tempting to stay in canal park at one of the hotels right on the lake. They are more expensive and less roomy. We really like this hotel because of all the space in the rooms. We don't usually cook in them but its nice to have the refrigerator for beverages and snacks and real dishes. We stayed in a one bedroom king and it was plenty roomy. The breakfast in the morning was quite extensive, more than just donuts and hard boiled eggs. We didn't use the pool but it seemed like a nice area. I would stay again while in Duluth.

Room Tip: Some rooms do not have an outside window. It's nice because it is plenty dark in the morning, b...

Stayed in a king jacuzzi suite. Loved it, great price, and great location! Was cold and stormy outside and warm and cozy in our big room. Decent breakfast on the weekends. Lots to do downtown, even on crappy days! Right by the lift bridge and canal park. Many different places to eat within walking distance. Parking lot for guest across the street. There is a pool and children's pool.

This hotel is unique in that it’s an old industrial building that was converted into a hotel. If you prefer cookie cutter hotels, this isn’t for you as there are some unique features. Once inside however, it has the feel of a higher end hotel.

We stayed two nights, in a room with a view overlooking the docked museum boat, and couldn’t have been more pleased. Check in was very easy, and the people were always very nice at the front desk. The bed was very comfortable with a comforter and lots of pillows in various degrees of firmness. The room had a kitchenette/living room area, and a separate bedroom. I believe the sofa folded out to another bed so if you are traveling with kids, this would be useful. The included breakfast was more than substantial as well. It was also very quiet. Parking is free across the street in a dedicated parking area for the hotel. The only thing I found odd was the stairs to get into the hotel. This is tough if you’re bringing in luggage. We never located another way in; I’m guessing they must have handicap access somewhere.
If you stay, I would suggest getting a room with a window as I noticed there were some rooms that were in the interior. We stayed in October, so I’m not sure how the ac works as we only had to open our window and get some nice cooling air in to the bedroom.

We had an issue with the toilet not flushing and the tub not draining in our room; maintenance had to come twice, but they came quickly each time. I highly suggest reporting problems like this to the front desk at any hotel. They usually don’t know if something is wrong and if they are not told, they can’t fix it thus resulting in unhappy customers that won’t come back and potentially writing a bad review. In this case, the front desk staff was very happy to know so they could fix the problems, and showed their appreciation with a credit on our bill.

Room Tip: Ask for a window with a room.

My husband and I stayed here the last night of our honeymoon. We got a room facing the water, listed as a "city view room." Check in was easy. Our room was huge! It was clean. It had a stove, full fridge, table chairs, couch, TV sitting room. The bedroom and jacuzzi were in a separate room. It is a neat place, with the pipes showing and the walls are brick. Didn't hear any neighbors or anything, you could hear the water running in the other room- but you can hear that at any hotel. Parking was easy and the breakfast was good. We would stay here again.

Wonderful place to stay! Comfy king sized bed in a separate room, pull-out couch and table in the other room. Full sized fridge, 2 burner stove, dishes, etc. all made for an easy stay. Complete hot breakfast was more than enough to keep us going for several hours. Very clean and friendly staff!

Wanted to visit the Duluth area this fall! Looked for rooms up the North Shore and in Duluth. Wanted to find a reasonable rate. We found an interior room at the rate we wanted to pay. Stayed two nights

Check-in went smooth and we were soon in our room which had a bed, TV and small kitchen with a table and chairs. The room was very clean.

We stayed here many years ago and I remembered that you could smell cigarette smoke in our room but that was not the case this time.

As mentioned before, The Suites, serve a hot breakfast which is very good. Saturday morning was very busy and it appeared that the hotel staff had a difficult time keeping up with the demand. Sunday morning appeared to go more smoothly.

Some people in our group commented that having no windows bothered them but my husband and I would stay here again. We peaked in on a larger suite and they appear quite spacious and would be great for families!

Room Tip: Interior rooms provide value. Window rooms are larger and cost more.

There are 5 women that stay in the double suite yearly. Pleanty of room, brightly lit, and the housekeeping this year was outstanding. Like previous reviewers say, close to everything. Breakfast is one of the best continentals that I have had!!

Room Tip: If you don't mind not having windows - they are a good price.
