Owner description: Finished in 1908, this Lake Superior 39-room mansion enjoys a rare, intact collection of original furnishings and art. Because of that, it closely resembles the days when the Congdon family first occupied it. Truly, it is Duluth's answer to Downton Abbey. Situated on a wooded lot, the home boasts spectacular views of Lake Superior, as well as, multiple gardens including formal, flower and vegetable. Guests are also encouraged to explore the carriage house, boat house, stone bridge and pier. Children enjoy the pebbled beach for hours of rock skipping while parents take in a sit on one of Adirondack chairs. Be sure to check out Glensheen as part of your must-do Duluth bucket list.

“Don't miss this Duluth treasure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

A lot about Duluth happens outdoors. But for history lovers or great house lovers do not miss the extended tour of Glensheen Mansion. The house is in very good condition with the family's contents intact, it is an unusual architectural style that you don't get to see very often (Jacobean) and it sits right on the shore of Lake Superior.

“Take the extended tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

Even though I have been traveling to Duluth for 25 years, I have never visited Glensheen until now. My sister and I took the extended tour and were led around by Kathy. She knows tons of information about the family and is a fabulous docent! Since it was January, the grounds were not as beautiful as they would be in the summer, but the mansion is impressive without the extra beauty.

“Historical Beauty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

A Duluth treasure. The tour was comprehensive and fascinating with information both about the house and grounds and the family that lived there. And no, you will not receive details about the murder.

“One of the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

This "house" is incredible! I remember when this was a privately-owned property but now it's open for tours and has been restored to a tee. It's mind-blowing to think of living here, especially 100 years ago when it was just completed (1908) and a lot of houses didn't have running water, let alone the technological advances that Glensheen offered the Congdon family and their guests. The majority of the original furnishings are still in place where they were designed to be so everything looks as if the Congdons just moved and left everything there. I can't recommend this house and grounds tour enough; you will not forget the experience.

The history of the home is very interesting. Would liked to have seem a few more personal items of the former residents.
