Owner description: Finished in 1908, this Lake Superior 39-room mansion enjoys a rare, intact collection of original furnishings and art. Because of that, it closely resembles the days when the Congdon family first occupied it. Truly, it is Duluth's answer to Downton Abbey. Situated on a wooded lot, the home boasts spectacular views of Lake Superior, as well as, multiple gardens including formal, flower and vegetable. Guests are also encouraged to explore the carriage house, boat house, stone bridge and pier. Children enjoy the pebbled beach for hours of rock skipping while parents take in a sit on one of Adirondack chairs. Be sure to check out Glensheen as part of your must-do Duluth bucket list.

“Historical Beauty”

A Duluth treasure. The tour was comprehensive and fascinating with information both about the house and grounds and the family that lived there. And no, you will not receive details about the murder.

“One of the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

This "house" is incredible! I remember when this was a privately-owned property but now it's open for tours and has been restored to a tee. It's mind-blowing to think of living here, especially 100 years ago when it was just completed (1908) and a lot of houses didn't have running water, let alone the technological advances that Glensheen offered the Congdon family and their guests. The majority of the original furnishings are still in place where they were designed to be so everything looks as if the Congdons just moved and left everything there. I can't recommend this house and grounds tour enough; you will not forget the experience.

“What an historic place”

By all means, take time to visit and tour this wonderful mansion. So much to see on the mansion grounds. The stable alone is worth the price of admission.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We went here for the spooktackular and was treated to a tour besides. it is well worth the 16 dollars. chester was rich but ya wouldnt know it bye the tastful way the mansion was done. If ya had to pick between glensheen and Jame J Hill House ya sould travel to duluth the Glensheen is so much more plesent and homely.
