“Favorite place in canal park.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014 via mobile

I grew up coming to this hotel for mini vacations in Canal Park and this place keeps getting better! I have never had a bad experience. It is a beautiful hotel, especially the view from the lakeside rooms. The outdoor pool is so nice, even when it is snowing, and making s'mores on the patio by the lake is a new fun tradition. We stay here every time we visit Duluth and wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else.

Making the reservations was a breeze. The staff was extremely courteous and the hotel even honored the wedding block price that my cousin (groom) had negotiated even though it was past the required date to reserve. Not being from the area, it was also nice to be well received by the desk staff when checking in and throughout our visit. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable. They offer a large scale hot/cold breakfast in the morning, which my family really enjoyed, as well as a smore roast at night. This was a great hotel for the weekend and we will definitely book here again if we make it back to the area.

Wife and I arrived on a Thursday (Mar 2014) for 2-day stay just to get away from Minneapolis. Simple check in and check out, great clean rooms, comfortable beds (my wife wanted to take the pillows home). We got a 3rd floor room which was quiet, facing the city (lake was frozen over yet). Snowed while we were there...they wasted no time clearing the lot. Our room had a couch which was nice so we could each sit and use our tablets (gasp!) to check emails. Breakfast was good (typical breakfast of most hotels), facilities overall are good. I would certainly recommend this hotel to my friends and family, and I would stay again.

Room Tip: 3rd floor is the top floor. We heard no one from below us.

We stay at the Inn on Lake Superior often. From the moment you walk in you are taken to a different place. You feel as if you are not in Minnesota. The Lobby is bright and inviting. The eating area has been redone and is alot bigger and offers so much for everyone. Free coffee and tea 24 hours and smores at night, every night, by lakeside makes this a fun experience for every age. The rooms are clean and very modern. If you need anything they are right on it. You feel so much at home that it is hard to leave when your vacation is over.

Room Tip: lake side is quieter though I feel the city view is not all bad either.

We stayed for two nights with two kids (7 and 4) in the family suite. The setup was terrific for us with a great view of the lake. Make sure to get on the second or third floor for better scenery. Room was clean, beds were very comfortable with soft sheets and downy comforters. The hallways were quiet and we didn't hear any other guests around. We used both pools and found the indoor one very chlorinated (bring goggles) but warm with big towels to use. There are rooms that overlook the pool, I would not want those as large groups of people congregated near the pool making it very noisy. The rooftop pool was very neat! Super warm and fun to use with the kids! The breakfast was awesome. A huge continental breakfast with exceptional staff. We didn't encounter one person who worked at the Inn that wasn't friendly. They consistently ensured our stay was pleasant. And location is perfect on Canal Park. This will be our family go-to for trips to Duluth.

Room Tip: Avoid the pool area and get above the first floor.

The Inn on Lake Superior is a wonderful place to stay. We were booked on Skyline Shuttle to the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, and this was a place for pick-up. Since we were scheduled for a 7:00 a.m. shuttle, we decided to stay there overnight. The free breakfast was great, and I especially liked the availability of a computer and printer so I could print out our boarding passes for our flight to Florida. We were near the pool, so there was some noise from the door, but it was quiet by the time we went to bed. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was great, and everything about the room was very nicely decorated. We will stay there again!

We stayed two nights recently in March for a quick break with our 5 and 10 year old children. The hotel offered an excellent value! When I called to make the reservation, the staff at the desk were attentive in describing the various room options available and were very pleasant while making the reservation. It set a wonderful tone for our entire visit and we weren't disappointed. The extra touches such as complimentary soda in the fridge and the nightly s'mores add to the overall value. The room was nicely appointed and the beds were super comfortable. My husband travels for a living and is very particular about beds and hotel rooms in general and this place exceeded his expectations. The breakfast offered in the morning again exceeded our expectations. The staff working with area were attentive and even brought out chocolate chips for our kids to put on their waffles (which they loved!). There were al ot of high school kids at the hotel while we were there for a conference and we were worried it would negatively affect our experience, but there was limited noise and the walls seemed well insulated so it did not disrupt our experience at all. We plan to come back this summer when we can enjoy even more of the amenities such as the outdoor pool and the bikes.

Room Tip: We booked a corner room. It had a king bed, a queen bed and a pullout sofa. The layout was perfect...
