“Family time in Duluth”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

The family suite at the Inn On Lake Superior was what we reserved. It was the most affordable way to get the two families together without the cost of the two rooms. It was adequate. the main bedroom overlooked Lake Superior with a balcony, which was fantastic for the ones sleeping in that room... the second room was windowless and warm. The layout wasn't exactly what we expected and I think next time we would spend the money to book two rooms, so each of the families could see the outside.... after all, that is what we are all there for.
It is on Canal Park which is the best of the fun at night, so it was easy to walk around to different places and experience their atmosphere. The new brew pub on the Canal was great, with great brew.
All in all, it was a nice place to stay, with the roof top heated pool that overlooked the city as well as the lake. Great staff, too.

Room Tip: A room with the balcony is always a win, but if you go on the third floor, you are just a short walk...

Dear Nannerjammer,

Thank you for choosing our hotel for your recent visit to Duluth. I'm glad you found the accommodations suited your needs, and understand completely that two lakeview rooms may be more enjoyable next time. I hope you will be back and let us serve you here again soon.

This was our first time at The Inn on Lake Superior and it will be our last. We selected it based upon great reviews and the fact it was recently updated. We weren't impressed for the cost of > $300 per night. We basically paid for the convenient location as the hotel wasn't anything special. Yes, the room was nice but is seemed sort of "tired" (stuffy, dirty carpet). It's a kid-friendly place, so if you don't have kids, it might not be the place for you. The first floor area that had tables for eating smelled like worms or dead fish on Friday and Saturday night. It wasn’t pleasant. Check-in staff was very pleasant. Next time we'll try another hotel in Canal Park.

Room Tip: Get a room on the lake side -- they have balconies and the view is beautiful. If you have kids runni...

We have stayed at the Inn on Lake Superior for Grandma's Marathon every year since 2008 (with the exception of 2009 when I was going through chemo and they were more than accommodating with refunding our trip and holding a room for 2010). This year, we were very disappointed. We checked in on Friday afternoon and proceeded to our room only to find that our keys didn't work. So back down to the desk for new keys. Once we got into our $370/night, nonsmoking room, we were greeted with the smell of cigarette smoke and a used coffee cup. Maybe somebody's break room? We called the front desk and they sent someone to spray the room...he said "oh, this happens all the time". Pretty disappointing when you're paying that much for a nonsmoking room. And to top it off, we had to leave the room because the spray caused an asthma attack.

Cleanliness of the hotel has declined over the past years. The carpet was soiled and we found debris on the floor which made us wonder if it had been vacuumed. Also found a long hair in the bed which didn't belong to either of us...yuck!

Checkout was a hassle. We had a small credit balance on our account. They insisted on applying it to a credit card that was no longer in use due to a name change (because the reservation had been made with that card a year ago). Anyway, we checked out other hotels in Canal Park for Grandma's weekend and found that they are the same or better quality and more affordable. We won't be staying at the Inn on Lake Superior again!

I absolutely love this hotel. The location is amazing, the rooms are huge, clean, and totally updated, and you simply can't beat the heated, outdoor pool when the weather gets cool! Can't wait to return to this gem.

Worth every penny. I stay here not just when I Have to be out of town, but as the destination itself. The location is amazing- from the shops in walking distance to the views of the bridge and of course Lake Superior. The rooftop pool is something everyone should experience. The s'mores add a nice family or romantic touch and the breakfast is beyond continental. I also respect their "green" touches throughout the hotel. Always looking forward to my next stay at the Inn!

Stayed here for Grandma's marathon weekend. I've stayed here many times before, but it had been about 6 years since our last stay. The nightly rate (plus 2 night minimum) for a standard room was an outrageous $370 (about three tines the normal rate), but it's supply and demand, so I cannot blame them. The staff was super friendly and helpful. It was my son's 8th birthday while we were there, and they went out of their way to make it special for him (and he thought all the balloons the hotel had brought in to decorate for the marathon were for his birthday!). They do a lot of little special things (for this weekend, anyway) - e.g., the balloons, music in the lobby in the evenings, smores, kids activities (coloring contest, make your own t-shirt), fresh baked cookies at breakfast, special breakfast hours for the runners. Our room had been recently remodeled. Nice furnishings and bedding; nice large tile shower with good pressure. The kids enjoyed the indoor pool. The lake view cannot be beat (although all we saw was fog the whole weekend!). Only complaint was no DVD or on-demand movies - made it a bit challenging when we left 5 kids in the room with a baby sitter one evening. I have not stayed at other Canal Park hotels, but I would definitely recommend The Inn on Lake Superior to anyone visiting Duluth.

Room Tip: Pay for the lake view. First floor on the lake side gives you direct access to a patio and the lawn...
