The Hampton Inn Duluth is right in Canal Park - everything is in (very short) walking distance. No shortage of things to do for a long weekend or a 'short getaway' trip.
We did the 'king bed upgrade' and it was well worth it. Besides the additional space for the bed, the room had a couch, a very comfortable desk (laptop friendly), a mini fridge and a microwave. All in all, very comfortable space.
As with all Hampton Inns I've stayed in, the hotel is very clean and comfortable - gotta love that Hampton bed - most comfortable bed out there.
Breakfast was 'just ok' and not up to the quality I've had in most other Hampton Inns. This is the reason for the '4 star' rating instead of a '5 star'. The seasoned potatoes have this lemon pepper spice - really not my favorite. The other hot food was mediocre to 'ok'. The small pasties were stale (but the zucchini & banana bread were excellent). The coffee was very good.
On the other hand, the breakfast room itself is awesome. The room is right on the lake with lots of class to watch the big ships coming in & out of port. Very bright & sunny. Truly a spectacular view.
Be advised - when traveling to Duluth at ANY time of year, bring a (windproof) jacket or coat - it can be chilly (or downright cold) even in the warmer months.
