“Pleasant Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

The town was booked but we were able to find the two bedroom suite we needed at the Holiday Inn downtown Duluth. What a pleasant surprise. The two room suite was on the 5th floor and was a quality room. this hotel has a pool in the center so we did get noise drift up to our room, but they close it at 10:30 pm to protect the sleeping hours. There was a small patio that had a view of the lake.

It is a large property so its indoor deck parking but is free. There is a spot to drop off and register.

Breakfast in the dining room was just great - do you believe eggs benedict over Wall Eye Pike! -great.

There were a couple of areas in our two bathrooms that could have been cleaned up better.

Personnel were helpful. Would use again

A friend and I stayed at this hotel during our yearly girls road trip. We requested a harbor view and we were amazed by the view!! It was absolutely breathtaking!! The staff were wonderful; very helpful in guiding us to a great place to have dinner, went out of their way to make us feel very welcomed, and it was nice to feel that we were being taken care of in every way. Our room was beautifully decorated, with the most comfortable beds of all the hotels we stayed at. The room was very clean, quiet, and we loved the guest convenience area in the lobby. We both wanted a little snack before bed, and were able to buy from a very nice selection of foods. All in all, this hotel deserves a huge thumbs up! We can't wait to stay again!

Room Tip: Harbor view is amazing!

We were given an upgrade on arrival for being priority club members, this beats the obligatory bottle of water, received at many other Holiday Inns and very much appreciated. Found staff to be very accommodating and helpful. The restaurant and bar were excellent. All in all a great experience .Thanks.

This hotel is poorly designed poorly remodel disappointment, especially for the price you pay for the room. When you drive into their ramp to where you have to drop off your bags, I hope you don't get vertigo from the dizzying experience of their confusing ramp. Their rooms wrap around one of the noisiest pools I've ever experienced. We were on one of the top floors and yet the noise from our room was deafening . The only thing that saves you is that it become noise free by 10:30 pm which is late if you needed to get to bed. The rooms still have those wall heat/air conditioning units which create too hot of heat or too cold of air conditioning right next too the bed. The lobby is small and was so noisy when checking in, I could barely hear the front desk person talk. This would be the last hotel I would ever recommend in Duluth. Oh, and the price of the room is ridiculous. Every hotel in town was full so I did not have any other options.

Room Tip: Find a different hotel is my tip.

Gerry_Goldfarb, General Manager at Holiday Inn & Suites Duluth Downtown, responded to this review, yesterday
Dear Timguyy, Thank you for taking the time to post a review on your stay at our hotel in Duluth and thank you for staying with us. I apologize that your stay did not go well with the noise you experienced from our pool area and your dislike of our parking ramp and lobby. The parking lot can seem confusing at first because the street you approach the hotel on is a one way street so in order to depart the parking ramp without crossing incoming traffic it's designed to flow on the left side. You actually enter on the left and depart on the right side of the entrance to avoid crossing incoming traffic because of the one-way street. I apologize for this confusion.
I also apologize for our lobby being loud but at the time of your check-in we most likely had a very large amount of guests checking in at the same time which does happen from time to time. Normally our newly renovated lobby is spacious and quiet for many guests to work at our community table or sit in the lobby to read the many free newspapers we offer.
Finally, I do apologize for the noise of our pool atrium area. Again with it being a busy time, the pool does get used a lot. We have two pools, one on the 8th floor and one on the 3rd floor which definitely helps keep many happy until 10:30pm each night when we enforce a quiet time for all our guests. If you do come back and give us another try, please request one of our many rooms not in the atrium pool area and farther from the pool if you don't want to be near the pool which again can be noisy at times. Again I apologize for your poor experience. If you have any additional questions, please give me a call or email me at: Gerry.goldfarb@hiduluth.com. Thank you again for staying with us.

Sincerely,

Gerry Goldfarb

A basic room that was nice and clean. We had a great view of the lake, but it was spoiled by filthy windows (outside) that really detracted from the view. The toiletries in the room are very minimal (don't expect any hair conditioner of moisturizer). Not a bad place and the parking is free.

Room Tip: If you're lake side, make sure your room has clean windows so you can enjoy the view.

Front desk was perfect! Friendly, patient and competent. Loved our lakeview facing, modern room. Nice lobby with extra perks conveniently located. Hot tub was relaxing, kids liked the pool area. Would stay here again and again!

Service was good and room was clean,(except for the window which was very dirty). Not crazy about the parkade parking or the location though. We are used to paying less for more. We prefer to stay in Canal Park where there are more amenities included with your hotel stay and there are a wide variety of restaurants and shopping are within a safe walking distance. We booked at the last minute and this was the best deal that we could get.
