“Okay, but would stay elsewhere next time.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

The best part of this place is the shuttle service! Luke was great and so was the other driver on Sunday morning. Check-in was uneventful. The gal was nice this Saturday evening, but the two guys working with her were okay but needed a little help with making you feel welcome. We paid WAY too much for our two night stay for what we got! No 'wow' factor here. Although we were on the 15th floor and had a lake view, that was not as great as we had expected. The rooms need updating. The carpet looked stained in places, and when I went walking in to the bathroom there were wet areas! Evidently they had tried to clean the stains but to no avail. The bathtub tile towards the bottom looks like it has black mold growing on them in the grout--also around the drain. The bed however was VERY comfortable and we slept well, so that was a plus. There are limited outlets, in fact only one on the wall of the headboard. There was a sort of power strip that ran under the bed to the lamp on the other side of the bed. I have a C-Pap machine so had to unplug something to plug that in. Furniture is old but there was a 32 inch flat screen. There was a tiny frig. under the vanity area. Had some carrots in there and they froze. No microwave though, which would have been nice for heating up our leftovers. Was surprised to see that they did not have any travel type vacation book about Duluth and the North Shore area. Most places have something that tells about the area. Had breakfast at their Porter's restaurant. Both my husband and I had skillets that were small in portion size and pretty tasteless. Supposed to have onions, green peppers, bacon, etc. The vegetables were the type that are bought pre-chopped from a food vendor, and had very little taste. I never did taste any bacon. And no cheese, which we usually find on skillets. The staff was friendly though and we did not wait long for our food. For what we paid for these two nights, we were disappointed in this Holiday Inn as we paid way too much for what we got, and we are Priority Club members.

Room Tip: Get a higher floor to see the lake.

IHG's Rewards Program is great! Booked a regular room for an overnight stop, and got a newly renovated suite. The room is comfy, spacious, and has a view of Canal Park. This would be great for an extended stay. Some of the reviews commented about the price. I also balked, initially, but upon further review, it is does sit at the vertex of Superior and Canal Park. So, it's pretty much in the center of it all. Lastly, the pool and jacuzzi are in the center of the hotel. It makes it easily accessible, and a nice social center.

Since it is a suite, I was able to close the door to the sitting area. This completely cut out all the hallway noise, not that there was much to notice anyway. Typically great IHG new bed, linens, and comforter made for a great night sleep.

The staff was friendly and helpful, especially, Carrie. She had all the answers and helped me get settled, in and on my way with the night.

Passed on Porter's for supper, since I wanted to catch up on the day's scores. Although the prices, on the surface seem the typically inflated hotel prices, the quality and quantity more than make up for it. Try the turkey cranberry panini - it's thanksgiving in a sandwich.

Went to Porter's for breakfast. Good Eggs Benedict and coffee. Fair price for a sit down breakfast.

We stayed here for a wedding. Hotel seems a bit rundown for high price. Room has a little fridge so thats nice. We have three children so one sleeps on the floor. We needed two extra blankets for him one to sleep on and one to cover up with. They will only allow one extra blanket per room. So it was miserable for my son to sleep. He is 12. They dont have rollaways anymore either. Then my husband wanted to go in the hot tub in am (the beds weren't great). They don't open the pool till 8. They don't have adult only time and by 8 we needed to get ready to leave. We won't stay here again. Oh and be prepaired to wait for the elevators a long time theres only 3 for 16 floors and 345 rooms and they are slow elevators. We ended up taking the stairs most of the time we were on the 8th floor.

The inn is clean & comfortable, the rooms also. Located downtown, offering free parking is a nice perk. The staff was friendly & helpful. Nice choice breakfast selections from the menu. The room air conditioner in 1409, though was as loud as my washing machine doing a load of work clothes.

Room Tip: 1409 has a noisey air conditioner

We stayed on UMD move in weekend. Loved the updated room with living room with sofa bed, tv, microwave, fridge and bedroom with a view of the water and 2nd tv. Parking in the garage was easy. Two pools, one with a arcade and a wall of windows to let the sunlight in and see the buildings closeby. Perfect location to all the great food and shopping at the waterfront. Indoor walkway for inclement weather to help get to the waterfront. We did have an issue with our AC, upon which they sent someone right away to fix. Thanks for a great stay in Duluth!

The location of the Holiday Inn is pretty good - not right in the lake front but close. And there are a number of cute places around to shop and eat. The hotel itself is just kinda old and run down. The rooms were clean but the beds were a bit old and the interiour (especially hallways and reception areas) felt rundown.

Not the nicest Holiday Inn I've stayed in (and I think the price was a little high for the state of the hotel) but it was clean and had all the perks listed (pool, fridge in the room, coffee shop attached, etc.) so it was fine as far as our stay went and the staff were pleasent.

We only stayed here one night. Everything met expectations, staff friendly & no issues. Even though we had a room by the elevator it was very quiet, no problems sleeping. What made our stay spectacular was having a lake view room. This was great to watch the ships go through the harbor during the night. We set our camera on a tripod and got some beautiful night shots from our window! For breakfast the next morning there were 2 options, a fast coffee shop sort of place on the lower level that had a nice selection of food and a full service option which is what we did. The selections were plentiful and the grilled pork chop that I choose with fresh fruit was outstanding. We will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Lake View and upper level
