“Historic Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2014

Stayed two nights. Great location near downtown dining and attractions. Our room had a great view of Lake Superior. The hotel has a great brewery on site. The room was very average. The air conditioner seemed to be leaking water on the carpet and the drain in the shower drained slowly.
Service and staff was excellent. Free valet parking and shuttle service was a plus.

Room Tip: Get a lake side room. Fun to see the big ships enter the harbor.

Fitger's Inn has a Great Location, Aveda products, Big Room, Comfortable bed, Love it!
Everyone is so nice at Fitger's Inn! A real treat, a concierge came in a very comfortable van to pick me up at the airport! What great service! Ideally located on the boardwalk that surrounds Lake Superior guests have easy access to restaurants and shopping. The rooms that face the lake have a wonderful view! You can even hear the water softly lapping at the edge of the shore.
The location, the big rooms right on the edge of Lake Superior make for the perfect setting for an easy, fun vacation!

A overnight at this hotel was such a treat. We couldn't find a hotel in the area due to a golf tournament and a festival. The lady on the phone said sometimes people check out early if they don't make it to the next round and took our number. She called a few hours later with the good news - we were in! Not only were we in, we had a fabulous room on the top floor viewing the water. We even watched a wedding on their deck out our window.

Service was wonderful, and free valet parking. We ate prime rib in their downstairs restaurant for dinner with the 2 ten dollar off coupons we received at checkin. It was fabulous, and we eat a lot of prime rib in the north while visiting in the summer.

Room Tip: Ask for a water view room

When we arrived Friday evening the whole complex was packed, including the parking lots. We parked to the north and walked up to the hotel entrance. The valet was remarkable and not only apologized for the our walk, but took care of the vehicle (free valet service) and had it waiting at the front entrance for us right at 7am the next morning.
The desk staff were very polite and informative each time we visited. They explained everything there is to do (hotel, stores, bars, restaurants, etc).
Our room was beautiful. The decor was dated, but I felt that was part of the charm. By no means did the room seem "old." I would say that the bathroom could have been bigger, or have a extra sink in the main room.
The continental breakfast was generic with coffee, juice, fruit, and pastries. However, the balcony off of the breakfast room was amazing. We watched the sun come up over Lake Superior which made for a great start to the day.
The only complaint was our waiter in the Mexican restaurant. He was not friendly or attentive. He was truly the only blemish during our stay.

Staying at the Fitger is an experience that must be taken as a whole. It's an old brewery complex with shops and restaurants, balconies and passageways to explore. If your weather while visiting turns bad, you never have to leave the complex. Our room was spacious with the bed set back in a raised alcove so we could see the lake from our bed. Unfortunately, a second TV in front of the window blocked the best view. (Why isn't it mounted on the wall?) The lighting was good in the room and although the upholstery on the chairs was old and a bit stained, they were comfortable when we settled in to watch the news that night. The continental breakfast was simple but satisfactory…yogurt, bagels, toast, fruit, etc. Also, the coffee was excellent. We took our plates and sat outside on the tiny balcony. I wished I'd known about the balcony the night before, as it would be a great place to share a bottle of wine. The hotel is right on the Lake Walk and as we walked past other hotels, we admired the ambience of their fire pits and marshmallow roasts. However, when it began to rain, we were glad to get back under the cover of the Fitger, and choose a restaurant right in our complex. (With a discount coupon given to us on check-in.) We totally enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Definitely pay the extra for a lake view!

Traveling with a pet? I guess Canal Park hotels no longer want you. But don't worry Fitger's will welcome you. Not only do they take pet's it is also a very nice place to stay. The hotel staff was over the top accommodating. When I had to delay our stay by one day due to a death in the family Todd not only honored our early booking discount rate he upgraded us to a lake view room for a very reasonable additional charge. Then once we arrived Diana at the front desk helped to make our stay very enjoyable. The view from the room & the patio/resturant out front are quite nice. Happy hour overlooking the lake is a must do. The walk to Canal Park really was not that far and if you explore the other direction you should for sure check out the rose garden. With the coupon book we were given at check in we had a very nice breakfast on the out door patio, but the complementary breakfast would have more than enough also. The coupon book also included many of the unique shops located right in the building. Make sure not to miss the Brewery, loved the brew & have gotten many compliments on my very cool t-shirt.

Room Tip: The lake view is worth the extra dollars.

Turn of the century class in todays world. Wonderful rooms, light breakfast and great casual bar with craft beer. This hotel is a converted brewery from old German founders. Visiting Cirrus you might want to consider Fitger's and get pampered. On a lakefront walkway. Enjoy

Room Tip: Lakefront have great views, back rooms are very large
