“has it all!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

We just returned from another great family vacation at Fair Hills! I grew up coming here with my family of 7, and now it's become our vacation of choice for family reunions with my siblings and their families! The cabins are very basic, but who spends time in there except to sleep? Our kids enjoy the freedom to roam and join the scheduled kid activities (even a teen night for the older kids!) or to spend time with family swimming, boating, golfing or practice for the talent show! As others have mentioned, there is lots of built in entertainment, if you like that (night-time shows, golf, tennis, volleyball, campfires, cocktail parties) or you can simply sit and read a book. The dining hall serves amazing meals with multiple choices for all (vegetarian always a choice) and the staff is very accommodating to special requests. We appreciated the serving sizes being appropriate, not too huge and you can always request a half portion since they feed you so well! (or multiple desserts!) The staff is outgoing, talented (!) musically and always ready with a smile!
Suggestions of things to bring: if you enjoy wine/beer, you can rent a refridgerator or simply bring a cooler (ice is sold at $0.05 per LARGE scoop: so dirt cheap!) and remember the wine opener; flashlight for walking at night, although the pathways are very well lit; maybe snacks for your cabin, although the food service is great and they do sell ice cream/popcorn/snacks at the pavillion. There is no need to leave Fair Hills once you pass through the golden archway!

Room Tip: Some cabins have kingsized beds, which was a great luxury. Cabin 40A was upstairs but faced the lake...

“Incredible place to make family memories”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

Remember Dirty Dancing?? This resort is the closest you'll get to that. We've been coming for 47 years with three generations. Each generation of kids LOVES this place--my twins call it "Fairy Hills." There are activities for all, food, maid service, the lake, a pool, etc.etc. but NO TV or phones in the cabin and Internet is limited. TRUE relaxation. Can't say enough positive about this place if you crave genuine, quality family time. Get to know your kids. They will NOT ask for a cell phone, a video player, or a computer the whole time.....

“A Treasured Family Vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

A family favorite for generations! My family has been staying here every week in August for about 40 years. My grandparents started the tradition with their kids, and that has expanded to kids, grandkids, in-laws and friends spanning multiple generations. We stay in multiple cabins on Lake 5 Resort, an off-shoot of the main Fair Hills Resort on Pelican Lake about 25 minutes away. Anyone staying at Lake 5 has full access to the main resort on Pelican Lake including the activities for kids and adults, golf on the 9 hole course and use of the amenities (pool, hot tub, volley ball, disk golf etc). There is a wide variety of activities for all ages. From cocktails on the deck and golf scrambles to kid cruises with pirates. The setting is beautiful! Lake 5 is secluded in the wooded hills of northern Minnesota. The cabins are rustic and comfortable. Cabins 4 and 5 at least have a/c. There are fire pits for bonfires at night and docks outside the cabins on the lake. The lake water is crystal clear. There are no gas motors allowed on the lake so the water is super clean and the environment is calm and quiet. Fishing is great. We fish Sunday-Thursday and are able to have fish fry on Friday with enough fish to feed at least 15 people and still have left overs. There are also an assortment of boats available for use including kayaks, bikes on pontoons, canoes and each cabin comes with a electic powered fishing boat. Larger boats with water skiing capabilities are allowed on Pelican Lake at the main Fair Hills Resort. The resort is family owned by wonderful people who have a great staff every year. One of my favorit things to do is lay on the dock on Lake 5 at night and look at the stars. You have never seen a night sky like this! Meteor showers, shooting starts, Milky Way, northern lights, and the gentle lap of the waves on the dock. One thing you CANNOT miss is the Hootenanny every Tuesday evening at the main resort. Lots of fun, dancing, and songs that will be stuck in your head for the next 51 weeks and then refreshed! There is so much more, but this review is so long, at this point it might be quicker for you to just go there and experience it for yourself : )

“"only 51 weeks until we return"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2012

Every week when we leave, our kids say "it is only 51 weeks until we get to come back!" We drive 15 hours to Minnesota. If you want a place where the second you cross the entry arch, your world slows down, and it's all about your family, relaxation, and doing as much or as little as you want to do. You can read a book or go windsurf. Easy golf or challenging golf. In our group, we have an oil man, lawyer, ER doc, dermatologist, dentist, CPA - all love it and find it is the best vacation ever. I have been for 23 of my 31 years, and my husband of 9 years has been there 7! The scheduled activities for kids gives us a great break to relax! We love Fair Hills and the quaint, easy-going, no make-up, fun time we have each summer.

Room Tip: A cabin is a cabin - if our kids didn't nap, we wouldn't ever be in our room!

“Relaxing Getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2011

Fair Hills is a very friendly, relaxing getaway with lots of things to do...even if all you want to do is sit in a deck chair and watch the water! We spent just a weekend, but it was so nice and peacefull! The staff is very friendly and accomodating, the food is wonderfull and the view is soothing. We were there as part of a business meeting weekend and the facilities were great for anything we needed. I would love to go back and take my family!

Room Tip: The cabins close to the water have great views and seem a bit quieter.
