“Best location in DL for dinner entertaining, for a price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2011

Their food is always very good, and the view on the lake is fabulous! But the prices lend themselves to expense accounts and those retired with deep pockets. Drive on to Rose lake for Spanky's, little more casual with a much deeper menu and not so full of themselves. BUT again for high dollar entertaining, eg recruit the new doctor or other professional THIS is the place. Also lots of great improvements since new ownership a couple of years ago if you have been here in a while.

“It's supposed to be about the food...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2010

Classic and legendary joint. Stunning view of the lake from the dining room. Excellent service in a well appointed room. Fab wine list with $15 specials on certain nights. Romantic for 2 or able to host a very large party with ease. Ok to show up in casual cottage wear.. or arrive by boat at their dock.. and still be treated as if you arrived via Rolls Royce in your best tux. Food however, is almost appalling. Grey haired set (appears to be the majority of their customer base) with reduced taste buds or those who do not consider themselves to be 'foodys' will be happy with the overcooked and bland and tasteless. Overpriced in many ways. $4 and $5 side dishes beyond pathetic... for what you get.

If you want a nice night out with your love, definitely go there if you can get a window table but you might want to eat at a fast food joint first , or just share an appetizer or two and some wine... or just be prepared to muddle through a mediocre meal. If you are hanging with older folks who's tastebuds are easily impressed, definitely take your in-laws or grand parents out for a nice night out in a overall way

Good food and fabulous eating however is not The Frieside's forté.

“The Fireside is a true dining experience with a beautiful lake view to watch the sunset!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2009

This is truly a dining experience with wonderful service and secculent food for the palatte! Whenever I have friends from around the country come back to visit in the Minnesota Lake Country, the Fireside is always our destination for both ia fine dining experience and good conversation. I have had both the filet mignon with the gorgonzola sauce and sauteed mushrooms as well as their salmon special with a fresh mango sauce and the stuffed walleye! They treat everyone as a special guest, let you take your time to dine through the courses and thank you for coming when your night is at end! The view of the lake is a pleasant bonus and adds to the ambience. I am certainly ready for another fine dining experience!

“Elegant Dining and Beautiful Memories on Big Detroit Lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2008

The Fireside restaurant has always been a restaurant that I enjoyed visiting when in the Detroit Lakes area, but now it holds a special place in my heart. In the fall of 2008, my husband and I surrounded by many friends and family celebrated our wedding reception at The Fireside. From our initial meeting with our contact, Wade, our experience was nothing but exceptional. True passion in a job well done is evident in every team member working for The Fireside. I would highly recommend to other future brides and groom to use this venue for their reception. The ambiance is next to none with the character and charm of The Fireside, and the beautiful "back drop" of Big Detroit. We had a lot of different ideas that we wanted to implement into our reception. Not only was Wade willing to try them, he ran with the ideas. We had a Martini Mashed Potato that on a weekly basis some one still brings up to me, as it had such a wide variety of toppings and the presentation was brilliant. Because of similar owners we were able to treat our guests one more time before they departed with hot pizza from Zorbaz. Thank you, Fireside and it's staff for helping making our big day so special!
