“Perfect place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

My husband and I spent our anniversary weekend at The Oldenburg House. We had never stayed at a bed & breakfast before so for first timers we were impressed. Glenn & Helen made us feel immediately like family. Breakfast was super both mornings we were there. Helen's casino pointers resulted in some winnings. Glenn's stories were very entertaining. What caught my husband's eye was some of the artwork on the walls.....Bob Dylan images won the heart of a big "Dylan" fan.
We can not wait to plan another visit!!!!!

The Oldenburg house is a great place to stay when biking the Munger trail. The hosts Glenn and Helen are very friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and the grounds are beautiful. The porches of the home are a great place to sit and unwind after riding the trail. Breakfast is made around your schedule which is not common in B&Bs.

Oldenburg house is a beautiful property that borders an amazing state park with a rushing river. My husband had so much fun exploring the trails with Glenn, and letting him take us into the canyon where we got some amazing pictures. His mom was so nice and wanted to make sure we were comfortable. If you're hesitant on staying here for any reason, don't be. You won't be disappointed!

On the spur of the moment, we decided to spend a night in the Duluth area. Since we hand not really planned a head we took a chance and booked Oldenburg about 20 miles south of Duluth, in part because the price was very reasonable compared to Duluth, Glenn and Helen were very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was wonderful, home cooked meals can't be beat. The grounds are beautiful and our room comfortable and inviting. We unfortunately did not have a enough time to hike or explore the state parks. Loved the front porch swing!

We'd been anticipating our stay at Oldenburg House and it didn't disappoint! Lovely historic home on an incredible setting next to Jay Cooke State Park. Great conversations with Glenn and his mom. It was like visiting family! I've never been so comfortable at a B&B. Glenn makes delicious mushroom omelets too. We timed our visit with the Bayfront Blues Festival in Duluth. It was great fun -- but I regretted not having more time hiking at Jay Cooke Park. Go. You'll LOVE it!

My husband and I were celebrating our 1 year anniversary and wanted to go somewhere up North. I’m pregnant so we were not looking to go too far up and found that the Oldenburg house was the perfect distance from the cities and also close to Duluth (a city that we love) We were so happy about our stay at the Oldenburg house. Glenn and Helen’s hospitality and the great conversations we had made our trip so memorable and special. The home is beautiful and the property is amazing. If you’re into hiking or biking the Oldenburg house backs right up to Jay Cooke park with miles of paths for biking or hiking. The room we stayed in was very nice and comfortable with a very large bathroom attached. We spent one day in Duluth and it was only a 15 minute drive from the Oldenburg house. We found the town of Carlton to be lovely and enjoyed dinner twice at the Streetcar Kitchen. The night of our anniversary Glenn made us a beautiful bonfire and we had such a great time celebrating. Helen made us delicious brownies that my husband will not stop talking about  We will definitely be back to the Oldenburg house for another visit. Such a lovely place!

My wife and I took a long weekend to relax, hike and bike. We were so delighted when Glenn and his mother Helen welcomed us – they are so friendly. The historic house and grounds are beautiful and surrounded by towering White Pines. Our delight lasted throughout the weekend while biking on the Munger State Trail, hiking the Carlton Trail into Jay Cooke State Park and canoeing across the Thomson Reservoir into my childhood playground, the Midway River – all without having to drive out of the yard! We felt so comfortable at the Oldenburg House with our wonderful hosts.
