Pres. Obama stopped in the village of Cannon Falls, MN this summer to say "Hi!" shake some hands, have his photo taken, and so on, but he didn't get a chance to sample the noble wines produced at Cannon River Winery - http://cannonriverwinery.com/ Too bad! I just hope his staff bought a case or two to take on the bus! My favorite is a dry white wine, "St. Pepin" made exclusively from the grape of the same name. The grape is winter hardy for Minnesota - take that California! It was developed by the University of MN. This is a white that can compete with anything from any where in the world - dry, fruity with a body that can really enhance chicken, pork or even lamb. It's about $14 or $15 a bottle at the winery http://cannonriverwinery.com/ They have a nice selection of local grapes that they turn into some very good French or California style wines. AND ... often on weekends there is live music in the tasting room! This is a great place to spend an hour or two on a Sunday afternoon - about 40 miles south of the Twin Cities, right on US Hiway 52.
