Stayed here for a unique business conference and was extremely pleased. The owners of the resort were extremely friendly - almost felt like staying with family. I would definitely come back if my travels ever take me there again. Be sure to check out the hot tub: billed as the largest in Minnesota.

Both sides of our family have enjoyed gathering at Maplelag each Labor Day weekend for several years, for the annual mountain bike races. They treat us so well, feed us well, a beautiful setting where it's easy to relax, enjoy nature and people of all ages. Our sincere thanks to the owners and staff there who work so hard to give people all they expect. :) Looking forward to the next visit!

We found our way to Maplelag in January of 1985 and have returned every January since then to ski the pristine trails, enjoy the wonderful food, and partake in the welcoming ambience and relationships that are such a special part of Maplelag. There are very few places these days that provide such a family friendly atmosphere - no matter the ages of the kids. We have taken our grown kids on several occasions to spend time in a setting that fosters great family fun indoors as well as out in the snow. If you want a place to retreat and enjoy the wonders of winter, this is the place!

It also is a great place to have a women's winter get-together. I have taken a group of women to Maplelag in March for the last eleven years. As word gets around of all the fun we have, new people keep joining us.

One of my favorite things is sharing this very special Minnesota treasure with as many people as I can.

My sister and her family of five (ages 50, 46, 14, 12 and 10) invited my family of four (53, 51, 11, 9) to our first visit to Maplelag. We stayed in "Candy Store". Very nice rooms. Not luxury but really comfortable. Great for families or active groups of youth or adult. Friendly owners/hosts, really good home cooking with exceptionally accommodating dishes for folks eating gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian etc. very fun built in activities like the dance evening and the talent show. BYOB to meals or the lodge was nice way to handle folks wanting a drink. The skiing trails and grooming were fantastic. Especially in this drought year in MN. ANother must do is the lakeside sauna and jumping in the lake! no tvs which we liked, but there is wifi in the lodge and lots of folks used it on their iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or other non apple devices. We paid for the linen package instead of bringing our own. Very worth it I think. This kind of place is a labor of love by a dedicated family. One that seems to be set up well to make the generational transfer when the time comes. We hope that's the case because the Maplelag community will be the better for it!

In January my wife and I made our first visit to Maplelag. We were pleasantly surprised with the charm of this resort- where the snow seemed to be so plentiful and food exceptionally good.
We cross country skied on well groomed trails during the day and enjoyed the sauna and giant hot tub in the evenings. And I need to mention the friendliness of not only the management but also the guests. We really enjoyed eating together with the other guests and hearing how others had been coming to Maplelag for years. Also the lodge has many interesting collections- depot signs, lunch boxes, stained glass windows- which kept me perusing the building. Bottomless cookie jars and good natured dogs also added to the pleasantness of our stay.

Room Tip: Go on a weekday when rates are reduced and the resort is more intimate.

Maplelag is a wonderful place. I have been there every year for several years and my family travels from very far away to join in the fun and we always have a blast. The hosts are wonderful. It is amazing what they have accomplished with the lodge, from its architecture to its decor and its nooks and crannies for relaxing. The ski trails are always extremely well groomed and the experience is a great mix of fun, relaxation and inspiration. The food is fantastic, and the experience of meeting other guests always adds to the experience. We LOVE the polar plunge - is that something you're going to do anywhere else?? This is a place where memories are made. Big thanks to Jim, Mary and company for their attention to detail and hospitality.

This year will be our family’s eighth annual ski vacation at Maplelag. We find this resort superlative in every aspect. We come back for the skiing, the food, and the friendly atmosphere.

Nordic skiing at Maplelag is superb, with trails of various lengths and difficulty, always eventually leading back to the cookie jar. I was surprised one day when I realized that Jay had been up all night grooming the fresh snow on the trails so that guests would have a great experience. Now that is dedication! The classic trails are excellent, as are the skating trails. Kids get to know the system and enjoy revisiting their favorite trails.

The food at Maplelag is awesome. Debbie does a great job feeding all the hungry skiers, from high school teams to our family team. Meals are served family style, three times a day in a large dining area with long tables and benches. We enjoy visiting with other guests as we fuel up before hitting the trails again.

The Richards family are delightful people, and they have established a warm and friendly atmosphere at Maplelag. We enjoy meeting other folks who like winter! Our kids really enjoy skiing, playing and visiting with other kids. This “lodge atmosphere” is just what we wanted, making our vacation a special experience. The guest-driven talent show is heaps of fun.

The lodge is a large, warm and wonderful place to hang out and warm up. Games and puzzles are popular with guests, and there are lots of comfy couches for curling up with a good book. We enjoy the hot tub, and there is a sauna and massage service available. The wax room is great for tuning up your boards and learning more about waxing.

Maplelag remains a great experience for our family, easily worth our eight hour drive. The activity combinations are endless- dad can ski to his heart’s content, we can all feel the adventure together, and the kids grow up thinking that skiing around in cold temps is normal. See you next year!
