“Romantic Spring Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Excellent location with the best of both worlds - countryside on doorstep and bordering Derbyshire not too far away plus shops close enough to visit if you're not into walking. Staff extremely pleasant. Leisure facilities and gym very up to date and clean. Meals well presented , tasty and fresh.

All in all would recommend a visit to this beautiful hotel - don't think you'd be disappointed!

Enjoy, we did!!!

Came to Shrigley Hall with my husband for a friends wedding & stayed overnight.
Room was a little dated but very clean & the bed was very comfortable.
Hotel staff were very helpful & friendly all day & the buffet breakfast the next day was excellent.
Really enjoyed our stay & would come back.

After experiencing Shrigley Hall in November when we celebrated an anniversary, we thought we would return for a birthday celebration at Easter, when the National Trust places would be open. We were as delighted as the first visit, the greeting we had on arrival was lovely and we had been upgraded to a room at the front of the hotel with stunning views over the golf course - and a 4-poster bed! The staff are very friendly and helpful, and work well as a team; they made us feel special. The food is excellent and can't be faulted, and we like the self-service element at breakfast, as you can have as much or as little as you want. Although the drinks are on the expensive side, we realise that you are paying for the whole experience, a beautiful hotel in a glorious setting, which must be expensive to maintain. I had a walk around the grounds, which are beautifully kept.

I also had a gym/swim afternoon; the gym is very well equipped and the swim was very pleasant. Lots of ladies were having beauty treatments. We had a 3-night break and visited Lyme Park and Little Moreton Hall. We felt thoroughly relaxed during our stay and would recommend it to anyone.

Stayed for one night on the travel zoo offer for £99 per room. This included three course meal, wine and breakfast. The wine wasn't in our room as promised so I asked for it at dinner. They brought it but then charged us for it on our bill. The food was fantastic though, and service excellent. Bar drinks a bit pricey. Room was small and basic (165) and was so hot that we had to dig the fan out at 3am so we could get some sleep.
The spa was a little disappointing, needs upgrading really. But saying that we had a perfectly nice stay and it was worth the money we paid.

My wife and I arrived in the snow after roads were closed and an alternative route was needed. We were shown into the lounge bar and give complimentary drinks as the room was not quite ready as we had arrived early. The room we were shown we did not like (small window) . When we mentioned this a member of the hotel arrived and took us on a tour of the hotel showing us 4 yes 4 other rooms. She stated more that once that we must be satisfied or this may inter fear with enjoying our holiday.. It's a pity That Puma Hotels can not send this young lady to other hotels we have stayed in as they may lean lots about customer relations. The rest of the hotel and grounds are great and I would recommend this hotel for a short break. Booked after seeing Travel Zoo offer ( Bottle of wine, evening meal and breakfast) Great 2 days with all as stated on both days.

Room Tip: If you are not happy open your mouth and they will help. Do not say nothing and moan when you get ho...

We went for a 1 night relaxing Sunday night break with afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast - all if which were very good. They did appear a little short staffed, but the staff that were there were excellent. We also used the spa facilities a lot whilst there. They were clean and well maintained. We got the deal from Spa and Hotel breaks.

Stayed for 3 nights 23-25th March. Made it throught the blizzards to the hotel at 2100 on the Friday. We had one of the premium family rooms, so were pleased to find a very large, warm room with a four poster bed (thank you tesco vouchers!).

Given the weather, we stayed at the hotel on the Saturday. I won't go into the detail of the collapsed roof or cold pool, as this has been covered.

What I will say is the staff were excellent. Many of them were stuck at the hotel too as the local roads were blocked. I must mention Kyle and Dean. Dean was everywhere. We found him serving coffee, doing some maintenance and manning the gym desk within the space of about 3 hours.

The hotel does need some more money spent on maintenance to be fair. The poor weather aside, there should have not been so many problems with the building, heating or fixtures.

Overall a 3* building on the day with 5* staff and surroundings... and we did get to build a snowman.
