I stayed here very recently and i was part of a golf society.
Ok, i am going to try and be diplomatic with this review, see below:
ARRIVAL: You drive up to this massive stately looking home driving through a golf course and you are presented outside to a beautiful water feature and stone columns. Once you get inside you goto the reception and check in. That was all done very well and without any fuss.
ROOMS: This is an absolute joke in finding your room. If you are not below rooms 150 i would say, arrive with your walking shoes on because it takes ages to find your rooms going up and down stairs, using elevators that are not responsive and in fact look like they need a major makeover and at least put buttons back on where they should be. Any rooms in the 200's it takes about 15 + minutes depending on ages, fitness and the amount of luggage you have to take into your room.
A tip dump your belongings in reception and get them to take your luggage.
Once you find your room, you would have noticed on how tired the interior is looking and this starts to reflex the whole stay.
The rooms are tired looking and to be honest the first time as a checking in married couple it was a surprise to be presented with single beds.
Looking round the room there was lots of marks scuffs etc... on the walls scratches in the furniture it just looked like it needed money spending on it.
The tv could not get all normal stations i.e. itv channels etc... and bbc stations were hazey at best so watching the Olympics when chance was not very good.
Bathroom was tired looking mouldy needed attention in all areas.
Breakfast: It is a buffet selection, it appears to have plenty but no fresh fruit to eat for example an apple, orange stuff like that. The cook breakfast depending on what time you get there is just ok. The bacon they use is tasteless and swimming in fat, the sausages are those cheap sausages that are just fat. There is other selections like toast, yogurts, meats, cheese, cut up fruit to pour yogurt onto and cakes. In addition there is a reasonable selection of cereal.
Main Meal: Due to having an all inclusive deal we had a set menu with things to choose from. These never changed throughout our stay. What i will say and i am honestly mean this, the food and service is too good for Shrigley. The food even though small portions was fantastic the lamb was beautifully cooked and the starters were also brilliant. I was amazed by how good the evening meals were. And this was even when the restaurant was packed, so i congratulate the chef and staff...
Spa / Pool: The changing rooms were disgustingly dirty and mouldy and the thought of being bare footed just sent shivers down me.
The swimming pool was tiny and not very big, you can do some swimming but the deepest area is only 0.5 meters which means the other end you may bang your legs on the bottom.
The jacuzzi was just dirty looking and a waste sitting in there as it was doing nothing
The staff were too busy chatting to there female colleagues than rather pay attention to the people in the pool, no life guard on attendance
Golf: This golf course was in a shocking condition, the greens had been drilled and sand dumped on some holes and not others. It appeared that they could not be bothered to brush the sand into the holes.
The course is hilly you will need a buggy if you are over a certain age.
It is not worth playing more than once, it has some lovely views but the general condition of the course is somewhat lacking in attention.
Hotel staff in general fantastic.
The golf staff seem to put single players out after societys without any explanation on them being held up - no thought at all so you feel like you have to rush round.
This hotel complex could have been so much more, i came away disappointed thinking that if they spent money on it to bring it up to a better standard then this review would be different
There are better quality complex's that offer spa and golf. Unless this place updates and makes...
