“Great Grounds Poor Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

We booked in and was given a room. Unfortunatly when we got to the room, there was someone in the room already. We went back to reception and then (ask) to be taken to another room, this was a twin when we have asked for a double. The room was dirty, the 3rd room was ok. The hotel does need a revamp as it is looking tired. The hotel grounds are great, with a 18 hole golf course, with great view over the countryside. This would be a great hotel, it just need a revamp and the booking in system needs looking at. The bar prices are very expensive they do need looking at.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a bigger room, at the front of the hotel floor 3.

Good to see some real positive focus on customer care and follow up. Even the free wifi, albeit a small change just makes the difference. Rooms are clean and spacious and the reception staff and bar staff were very friendly and helpful. With further investment in the well being of the hotel facilities I think it can be a keen competitor of Mottram Hall.

Overall a great experience. Room a little small and I agree with other recent reviews in that it was a little noisy at night due to a Dentist Graduation Dinner and Wedding but the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and the food excellent although a little pricey in the bar. Did not use the Spa so cannot comment but would visit again and give it a try,

having booked this hotel for a family party and weekend break it did not disappoint. The food was lovely and they catered for my sister and I who are coeliacs . Also enjoyed the spa. Very relaxing. Staff were very helpful. Lovely bedroom with four poster bed and beautiful views of the Cheshire Plain.

Room Tip: ask for one on the front

Having booked up a mid week break on the web we were looking forward to the splendour of the place. First impressions didn't disappoint but by the time we had got to our small modern box room at the back of the hotel the the wow factor was wearing off. Two rooms later we were put in a much nicer room but this was a upgraded room.
The reastarunt was excellent and even impressed the wife who's day job is to train chefs although more could have been made of the view from the reastaraunt windows. Breakfast was also very nice if a little short on verity for a four star hotel.
The spa was okay

Very noisy hotel. They have a lot of stag parties, wedding parties and other celebrations so people are up until all hours in the hotel. With the thin wallpaper and slamming doors, very hard to get rest. Went away for a quiet couples weekend, barely slept the entire night and was awoken at 8am by a delivery truck who loaded things for over an hour ( right outside our door, see the pictures!!)

Complained to the manager and asked for compensation. His answer was: "People make noise sometimes."

Was left very tired and grumpy for the long journey home.

Room Tip: Make sure you aren't going here to catch up on sleep!
