We received an email offer for being an AmericInn member to take advantage of some of their newest hotels and had planned a weekend get-away. We didn't care where, so we decided to go 2 hrs away to the Minneapolis area and found this hotel online. When I tried to book online, this wasn't an option - okay no big deal, so I called. The rate was 30% off so we stayed for $70/per night. What a great deal.
Now onto the real review:
When we arrived, staff was friendly - lobby looked like a normal AmericInn. Checkin was suppose to be 3pm, we arrived at 2:45 - they had a room ready but was turning people ahead of us away as "staff was behind schedule" in cleaning. We check-in and proceed to the room. Side note: We've stayed in 5 of these hotels in different states and towns. We walk in, the King size room was extremely small, basically had not much room to walk around the bed. Paint on the walls was chipped, door jam around main door was cracked. There was no racks to set our suitcase on, so we proceed to try and get ready for our evening out. Nice size tv, but no guide and no info on screen to find a channel. the table typically has a book by the hotel, ideas of things to do while staying with them - nope. Noticed no refrigerator or microwave to store our beverages in, when asked we were told AI management told them they couldn't have them anymore>??? When asked where the vending machines were, we were told nope don't have them, there was a gas station across the street. We saw a room service menu, proceeded to check this out - when asked at the desk about it, oh we don't have the ability to make this and no beverages are available to purchase as the menu listed. Prices were like 11.95 for a burger etc etc.. really... wow, did they have to walk in snow both ways to pick it up? We have an ice machine.. hmm so we used the sink for a cooler. When asked about dinner options, the staff was not knowledgeable with ideas - they said oh the place next door was nice but expensive. So we went (wasn't impressed with Eddys B&G either). When we came back after dinner we wanted to use the pool and hot tub - found out the pool was only 4ft deep and no hot tub. Disappointed here and the pool closed at 10pm. hmm. So we stayed in our room and played cards instead of enjoying our time away from home. The next morning we got up for breakfast, expecting the famous "hot breakfast" they are known for. No hot eggs, sausage/bacon no biscuits/gravy. Only waffles, cereal, yogurt and juice/coffee/milk. Made a waffle, went to put butter on it - all the packets had been opened, so I chose not use them (against safety standards - I work in food service), I chose syrup cups - took the foil off the top - the syrup was Hard as a rock and wouldn't poor - so I thought okay fluke - right, nope 2nd, 3rd one were all this way. I ended up eating 1/2 my waffle which was cold by now dry, drank a small glass of OJ and we left. Very disappointed in this hotel. Found out from the Bar staff at the restaurant this place was recently changed ownership and used to be a days inn where it was sketchy at times with cops, drugs etc until new management took it over - they said it has only been an AI for the past month or so. Will never recommend this hotel to anyone and will be calling AmericanIn Management this week to file a complaint.
wouldn't recommend any room here...
