“Relaxing vacation at Old Bahama Bay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

One week ago we returned from one of our most relaxing vacations ever at Old Bahama Bay. The staff at Old Bahama Bay was ALWAYS so helpful! Our room was so comfortable with a king-size bed. No noise whatsoever also makes for ease of a great night's slumber. We appreciated having a kitchenette, sitting area with TV, and luxurious lanai with comfy chairs for ocean viewing. Breakfasts and lunches at the Tiki Bar were scrumptious and fulfilling. The variety of menu offerings at The Dockside Bar were fantastic. The grounds of OBB were meticulously cared for with many tropical plants and trees, which reflected the names of the colorful buildings. our one bedroom unit was housed in the Jasmine building. Our walk to the white sand beach was only 40 feet away from our door. Staff was always friendly, happy, and helpful. I highly recommend a stay at OBB!

I am an avid scuba diver and had heard about Stuart Cove Tiger Beach Seafaris that is located on the grounds of the Old Bahama Bay Resort. After talking with Jerome for months (Jerome is fantastic. I must have e-mailed him 50 times and he always promptly answered my questions. I knew if I ever had any problems on the trip, Jerome would be the first person I called to get it resolved.) I decided to book a trip to the resort for my 15th wedding anniversary. Last week my wife and I enjoyed our getaway. From the moment we entered our room, we were delighted. It is a beautiful resort right on their own beach. The room was large with a stove, fridge, washer, dryer, great shower, large bath, couch, and comfortable bed. We were not expecting such a nice room. The ocean view was beautiful. The staff was friendly but at times a little slow (to be expected in the Caribbean). We especially loved Harold who we saw all over the resort. One day he was our waiter then the next day the activities coordinator. He works very hard but has a wonderful attitude. One day my wife enjoyed a massage while I went on the Tiger Beach shark dive. Though not for everyone, if you are wanting to do this it was a fantastic adventure and a dive of a lifetime. Beto the divemaster was fantastic. He put us right on the spot for 3 large Tiger sharks, numerous Lemon sharks, and a few reef sharks. The pictures I took in the clear, blue water blew me away. The resort is really working to improve its amenities. It was chilly and windy while we were there but they had available numerous beach activities from sailing to Kayaks to paddleboards. They all looked in good condition. The fitness room is good and the equipment was in good condition. All in all, the resort is a very good value for the money.
A few words of advice, if you want something ask for it. We had to ask for pots and pans for our room as well as extra towels. It might take them a while to bring them but they will bring them. I also highly recommend renting a car. It is on the West End and about an hour from anything. You will need a car to get groceries and this will save you some money. Also, bring laundry detergent for the washer and dryer. It is wonderful that they are in the room but could not wash our clothes without soap.

We stayed in a 2 Bedroom Suite and it was spectacular. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We flew over a day early due to the rough seas on Wednesday and OBB was very accommodating. Only a couple of small hiccups. When we booked our early arrival we requested transportation and it never showed up so we took a cab from the airport. Cab driver was extremely nice but his van topped out at 25mph so it took a loooong time to get to OBB. Internet went down often and we had to phone several times for replacement towels for our room.
The coconut French toast was AMAZING for breakfast and the restaurant that just opened was great as well. Conch Fritters are a must.

All in all I would highly recommend staying at OBB. We took my wife's parents with us this time and my mother-in-law said this was the best vacation ever. That's saying something since we have taken her to Italy and Hawaii.

The value was excellent thanks to a living social voucher otherwise would be a little high for the Bahamas.

The suites were beautiful with a fantastic view. The room was self sufficient with a full kitchenette, spa like bathroom, comfortable king bed, queen pullout couch and wash/dryer. The rooms have "joining room" capabilities for larger families. We purchased alcohol at the airport and had the limo driver stop at the grocery store, so that we could prepare some of our own food/drinks. Snorkelling, we saw starfish, puffy sand dollars, stingrays, conch, sea urchins, etc. We used the pool, kayaks, bicycles, ping pong & pool table, volleyball, WII on a large screen tv at the beach hut and had lots of family fun with our 7 yr old son. The gym was inviting and had lots of equipment. We did not use the spa services, but it was available with 24 hr notice. We had good meals at both the dockside bar & grill and the beachside restaurant. The marina was well kept with lots of beautiful boats. The staff worked really hard manicuring the property and answered all of our inquiries with a smile. The resort is gated and really private/remote, which is something we like.

We didnt stay at the resort, we stayed on a boat in the marina. So I cannot vouch for the rooms or service at the rooms. The grounds are run down, the pool run down, bathrooms by pool disgusting. The one resteraunt is cute, people that work there very nice. beach is pretty, but seagrass is annoying but it is nature what can you do! No pool or beach service so dont expect to be served. The website for the hotel are OLD pictures not current, again cant vouch for rooms, but the outside is no where near the pictures. And the watersports equipment that you can use also reflects being run down and not cared for. We got a driver to go into town ( meaning Freeport, he was so nice but it was so funny he misunderstood when we said town he thought we meant town by the resort...dont go, nothing there at all, freeport to far away. We love rest and relaxation, but to far away when you just have one resteraunt to go to. Luckly for us we started eating on the boat, since they kept selling us fresh fish from the catches of the day! if someone takes this place over and invests the money it woudl be great. But please note, all the people are very nice that work there!

We appreciate receiving your review. The resort has been undergoing a lot of changes and upgrades recently. Our indoor restaurant, Dockside Bar & Grille, re-opened this past Friday (March 15th), and we apologize for not having it open during your visit. We only just recently started with a new management team, and improvements are happening. We have also just received new beach / water sports equipment including kayaks, paddleboards and snorkeling equipment. Hopefully we will be able to welcome you back to Old Bahama Bay.

Nice Hotel, but the water at the beach is full of seagrass and algae. Indoor restaurant was closed because of a renovation, so you had to eat outside with temperatures around 65 degrees! Not acceptable. The quality of the food and the cocktails came up to a 2* hotel. Pool need some renovation, also too cold. Room comes with good kitchen, but even has no pans or pots in it. We will never come back again!

Thank you for posting your comments about your recent stay. The resort has been undergoing a lot of changes and upgrades recently. Our indoor restaurant, Bonefish Folley’s, is re-opening this Friday (March 15th), and we apologize for not having it open during your visit. We are also buying new sets of pots and pans for the rooms, they are scheduled to be delivered shortly. We only just recently started with a new management team, and improvements are happening. Feedback like this is important to us so we have input from our guests on where to focus our next efforts – like the pool heater! We will keep you posted on that one. Hopefully you will give us another chance sometime soon.

My first visit and stay at Old Bahama Bay, located on the West End of Grand Bahama island. Flight from Ft Lauderdale was only about 25 MINUTES!!! The hotel had a van pick us up and drive us out to the resort (about an hour ride). Very beautiful resort and grounds, and gorgeous shark-free marina. Looks alot more like a private gated condo community, rather than typical hotel. Beautiful condo-style rooms with big bathrooms, balcony views of the beach and ocean. The FOOD WAS AMAZING!!! Top restaurant-quality dishes, especially for dinner. If you are going diving, then go with Stuart Cove's Tiger Beach!!! Beto, the dive staff, and boat crew are really awesome, friendly, professional, and DEFINITELY know those waters.

The shark diving is INCREDIBLE!! If you are going for Tiger Sharks then you will see them on EVERY DIVE!! They are BIG and they come in CLOSE!! LOTS of Lemon Sharks as well, and on the way to the dive location we even crossed paths with a hug and very beautiful and graceful HUMPBACK WHALE!!! My first time ever seeing one in the wild, and especially in the Bahamas! I was shocked the place wasn't as packed and crowded as Nassau, but I LOVED the seclusion, privacy, and peace and quite. Very awesome experience with Old Bahama Bay, and I would (and will be) DEFINITELY going back!

Room Tip: BOOK EARLY!! I'm told their busier seasons pack in early! Rooms are big and spacious. HUGE bathr...
