Marriott Minneapolis Airport

I stayed overnight at this hotel for a business meeting. I will admit my bias: I don't like the Marriott chain. I liked this one less than most. Where shall I begin?

Meeting food - worse than usual Marriott food. Borderline inedible. Found out they were charging $16/head for snacks, which were waxy cookies, ice cream bars, and NO DRINKS. The coffee had floaties in it and so did the hot water - and the floaties were NOT coffee grounds.

Hotel layout - very old, cobbled together, confusing, multiple elevators that did not have common call buttons so you just pushed all the buttons and got on the first one that arrived.

Service - not bad. They let me check in REALLY early.

Rooms - Moderately comfortable, but smelled funny. Had the kind of bathroom where you have to stand behind the toilet to close the door. I found a bug in my ice bucket.

Business facilities - BAD. Charged $10 for high speed internet (which required a cord!!) and the service wasn't for a 24 hour period, it was for a given date, so when I woke up in the morning my service was expired and it wanted to charge me again.

Bar - blah. Poor beer selection, so I was stuck with Miller Lite. In a bottle.

The hotel was right across from the MOA but I'm not sure you could have walked there - lots of roads and Jersey barriers in the way. It was not especially close to the hotel, but I think that's the MSP layout and not the hotel's fault. I had no problems with the shuttle.

They did have a little convenience store in the lobby which was nice, and not overpriced. They also had ducks in the courtyard - they had set out a little plastic kiddie pool for the ducks to swim in, which I though was a very cute, kind, human thing for them to do.

That said, if you can find something else in the area, stay there.

“Underwhelmed and unimpressed”

Marriott Minneapolis Airport

I stayed at the Marriott near the Mall of America with several dozen others who'd gathered in Minneapolis for my brother's wedding. The wedding was not at the hotel, but they were very helpful in arranging rooms near each other and gave us a nice group rate. Check-in was great: they staff were very very helpful and welcoming.

Turns out we were one group out of several: there was a huge family reunion, another wedding party what was actually using the ballrooms for the wedding, and it appears a business group. The hotel was bursting at the seams with people and its resources were overtaxed. There were waits for meals in the restaurant, the shuttles to and from the Mall of America were full (but you can easily walk there) and the workout room was not usable because of the number of people using it.

The room I was given was on the first floor (which I do not like) but it was the only one available when I checked in, which was at 10 AM, so I was more grateful for the early check-in than I was disappointed by the first floor room. The hotel is a maze: pay close attention to the directions to your room. The beds were confortable. The office chair at the desk was broken; if you leaned back too far it twisted to the left! We did not need, so did not try to use, the internet in the room.

My first thought entering the hotel was that it was lovely, but once I got into the hallways I thought it looked dated, and the rooms were cramped. It could use an update and some redesigned room layouts.

Airport shuttle service FROM the airport was slow. I called; was told "five minutes", and half and hour later I called back and they said "five minites". It did come five minutes after the second call.

There are so many hotels in the area, I'll look for a different one next time.

Booked a night at this Marriott due location. Thought the price was a bit steep for what I initially read on line while booking, but attempted to stay positive. When I entered the lobby it was apparent that this is a hotel living exclusively on its location. The decor is worn and outdated, regardless of the finery about. Wireless is only free in the lobby...a small note that is not mentioned on the booking website. All other net access is priced at $10 a day. A latte the size of a small tea cup costs $4. My room is comparable to any $50+ hotel room I've stayed in. Certainly nothing to warrant a whopping $100 PLUS $20 in taxes and fees. I will not be staying here again...

I'm Marriott Gold and I stay here only for the points. The hotel is in need of some serious updating, if not, just bulldozing and starting over. It is very convenient to the airport, and the staff that I have encountered are friendly. I would only stay here if you are serious about your points/night totals or need something very convenient to the area. The hotel is just plain weird the way it is laid out. The elevators are practically hidden. Time for an upgrade, Mr. Marriott.

My daughter and I recently stayed at the Marriott Minneapolis Airport while in town for a volleyball tournament. It is very conveniently located by the airport and the Mall of America. However, it is an extremely tedious drive to downtown (during the week and on the weekends). My overall observation would be that this hotel certainly had its day, but is very worn out and tired. The lobby area appears nice when you check in, but under closer observation, everything, including the furnishings, carpet and the general areas seemed worn, stained, smelled and needed to be renovated. The layout of the hotel is not well thought out, but I disagree with some of the reviews where they claim it is confusing. The rooms were a decent size, but the bathrooms were very tiny and had no ventilation. After a shower, you could not put on makeup or blow dry your hair in the bathroom because the mirror was steamed. The beds were nice and comfortable and we thought the bedding and the towels seemed new. We never tried the restaurant because it seemed like it was deserted even at peak times.
Overall, if you want a decently priced hotel close to the airport or to the Mall of America, this hotel is not bad. I would stay here if I were making a weekend out of the Mall of America. However, having traveled all over the United States, it is my opinion you will be disappointed if you think this hotel is any more than a two star hotel.
