“Clean, and comfortable.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

The hotel was visually appealing and definitely comfortable. The problem with the bathtub drain was fixed immediately with a follow-up phone call to be sure that we were satisfied.
The one negative is the charge for wi-fi- $10.95 for a 24 hr period.

One thing I've found to be a constant is that whenever a hotel chain sells a property, they're doing it because the cost to remodel the property (to meet the standards their chain is known for) outweigh the potential added income - it's easier to just build a new property. Whenever a chain purchases one of these properties, it's rarely because they're so excited at the opportunity to dump millions of dollars into an old building to make it nice again. More likely, they want to get as much out of it for a few years until they sell it off again. This is the case with the Doubletree Bloomington. They purchased it from Sheraton, changed a few signs, and opened for business without doing any upgrades. Here are the issues I noticed:

1) Upon entering the hotel, you are immediately greeted with what could be a beautiful detail: a large aquarium built into the wall of the lobby. It was empty.

2) I had a room in the "north tower" which includes a center eight-story atrium with rooms around the outside. There's a reason hotel companies abandoned this design. Whenever ANYTHING was going on in the bottom of the atrium, every single room in all eight stories was disturbed. Our last night there, there was some sort of ceremony going on down there that included lots of applause and cheering. Kept me up until midnight.

3) The doors to the rooms around this atrium had about an inch of clearance on the bottom. Light from the (very well-lit) atrium streamed in through this space all night long.

4) The heat/ac units in the rooms are the type I would expect in a college dormitory or Army barracks. It whirred and whirred all night long.

5) The temperature dial on the tub/shower faucet didn't seem to have any relationship whatsoever with the actual temperature of the water coming out of the faucet. You turned it on, and whatever came out was what you were stuck with. And it fluctuated throughout the shower between hot and cold.

Room Tip: NOT the north tower.

I stayed here with 700 other folks over a four day weekend. Convention facilities were well up to the task, although there were some issues with audio/visual support. Food, rooms, pool and gym were great!

Room Tip: I stayed in the north tower.

Ask before renting a suite if one or two rooms if renting a pool side suite. Husband's Shrine Unit was charged for two rooms after paying for only one for years. Room was made into two rooms from the previous

The hotel has been remodeled and 90% of the photos on this review are outdated.
I had a wonderful stay at this hotel.
Staff members were fabulous from the dining, catering to the bus drivers/bell men. Outstanding.
Bed was very comfy with lots of pillows.
Rooms were cleaned very early which I like. I've had some hotel stays where I've gone back to my room during a noon break and it hasn't been touched.

Room Tip: It seemed that the (west) even numbered rooms in the tower were much larger than the (east) odds.

My room was very nice, it was an executive suite, which included a couch and a huge TV. I enjoyed the workout room, has multiple options and lots of nice machines. Room service was very good and accommodating. My only negative feedback is the fact that I have to pay for the WIFI. For a nice place like this I expect it for free. The staff was really friendly and helpful.

We needed a mini vacation and got a certificate to stay, and we upgraded to a whirlpool room, which was fabulous. It was a good continental type breakfast (you could eat at the restauraunt too) available. We had fun in the pool, and we went to Khan's near for supper, so it was a great location. Very relaxing!

Room Tip: The whirlpool suite was GREAT!
