“Great Location For 494 Strip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

This is a very adequate, clean, quiet hotel located on the 494 strip.. It is a great location for business or visiting family that live in the Bloomington/Edina area. The rooms are comfortable modern and well laid out. Free parking, internet and breakfast.

I would not call this a "close by" airport hotel at all. Traffic can be horrendous on 494 to and from the airport/Mall of America area. It is best to use American Boulevard which runs directly next to the freeway back a block and which this hotel sits next to..

Note: This is a review of the Hampton Inn at 4201 American Blvd. West; there are several Hampton Inns in the Twin Cities Area.

My mom and I had a very functional two-night stay at this Hampton Inn. We arrived at the airport about 4:30pm and called the hotel for a complementary pick-up. There is a lot of traffic during that time, especially due to the Interstate 35W and 494 interchange. We waited in the airport’s designated area for almost an hour, with shuttle vans from many hotels coming and going. Take home message: Rush hour traffic can affect travel times to and from this hotel.

Everybody at the hotel is very friendly and professional. There is warm soup waiting for you as a snack in the lobby in the evening. The hotel would also laminate your business card (and theirs on the back) into a personalized luggage tag for you by the morning if you leave your card in the evening. There is a Denny’s in front of the hotel (would require going outside) and Joe Sensor’s Sports Lounge next door, within walking distance. There is a Trader Joe’s supermarket within sight across the highway, but we did not venture there.

This is one of the older Hampton properties, with a smaller but adequately sized bathroom. However, everything in the room is nice and clean. There is also the possibility of ordering room service/delivery.

Breakfast was a little bit of a disappointment compared to other Hampton Inns. There was less selection and I had trouble with the waffle machine.

Nonetheless, if the price is right, this is a good place to base yourself by the airport. With the free shuttle to the airport and Mall of America, which leaves on the hour, one can take the light rail into Minneapolis.

I have been using Minneapolis for a park and fly - meaning park my car there for a week, sleep one night, and fly out of MSP airport for a long time. I usually go to a different hotel, but this time their shuttle was not working late at night, which was my arrival time. I had used this Hampton Inn before, so decided to go again.
I made reservations over the phone, and even mentioned my flights, but nobody said anything about reservations for the shuttle. On arrival, I was simply told there was no place on the shuttle, I would have to either risk it and go one hour later, or pay for my own cab, which defeats the purpose of the package.
The rooms are old and dated now, no renovations in a long time. The room itself and the bathroom were not clean at all. Breakfast not very good. Upon returning, the shuttle took over 30 minutes to show up, and simply dropped us by the frongt door and we had to carry our luggage all the way to the back of the hotel where you are told to park for the park and fly. Definitely not worth it.

I apologize for your experience with our shuttle service. I can assure you that we generally do a very good job getting people to and from the airport, Mall of America, and local area businesses within a 5 mile radius of our hotel. If the occasion arises for future park and fly needs please give us another opportunity. I assure the service will be first rate.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012 via mobile

I recently stayed at the Bloomington Hampton Inn while traveling for work. Positives first-rooms offered attractive standard amenities including flat panel tv, updated bath, comfortable beds with standard linens and complimentary area shuttles. Negatives-common areas of hotel lacked updates present in rooms and our use of the shuttle was unreliable. We had no trouble catching a ride to a restaurant across the street (Blue Point-ck it out!), but the pickup arrived almost 45 later than we were promised. Shuttle driver was very nice when he did arrive and we got the impression he had not received our request for a pickup when we called the first time. Overall, it was a nice hotel. Average experience.

I have stayed here before it's a nice hotel. The front desk assistant Johanna was very nice and helpful. The rooms and bathrooms are neat and clean. They have a 24hr airport shuttle that helps people like me who travels early. There are two restaurants right around the hotel. There are vending machines on every floor. I will stay here the next time i'm in town.

We stayed the night before a flight and it was wonderful. The beds are the most comfortable. The shuttle to and from the airport was very useful also. I really enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. It was a nice hot breakfast, not just cereal and donuts.

A nice clean hotel. Stayed here for a one night stay to move to a hotel closer to the Light Rail station. the room is a little bit small. Relaxing and quiet. Delicious morning b'fast with lot of variety (oatmeal, sausage, cheese egg, cereal, milk, coffee, waffle). There is ice and vending machine every floor. Good internet, down at 2 which "force" me to go to bed. There is a microwave in the lobby you can use.
