“Friendly Service and Beautiful Property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2009

My husband and I spent three nights at the Cove Point Lodge. We were impressed by the helpful service that the reception team provided when we requested advice about hiking in the area. They provided us with detailed maps and descriptions and gave us a excellent suggestions about hiking in the nearby State parks as well as visiting historical sites. The property is on a beautiful stretch of Lake Superior coastline, so for those who wish to sit and relax, there's no need to leave the lodge. The only drawback was the restaurant, which serves mediocre fare. However, the "Lemon Wolf Cafe", which is down the road is fabulous. We would definately return.

We recently stayed at one of the cabins at Cove Point Lodge. We rented one of the 2-bedroom cabins (Fijord South). There were recently built and we absolutely beautiful. The cabin was 5 steps from the shore of Superior, and the huge picture windows were gorgeous. The balcony had a view of the lake, and was a great place to watch the sun come up, spend the morning having coffee, and count the stars at night. You could fall asleep to the sounds of the water hitting the rocks.

I think this locationis perfect for vacationing on the north shore. It is quiet and you have privacy, but it is close enough for day trips to other cities such as Grand Marais, and offers great activities in the area (Gooseberry falls, Split Rock LIghthouse, the Superior Hiking Trail). Also there are some decent restaurants nearby. We really enjoyed our meals at the small pub owned by Cove Point.

The lodge is beautiful as well, but we didn't spend much time there so can't comment on the quality of the rooms there. Friendly staff - lots to do!

My husband and I love this place. We have been vacationing on the North Shore for years. Although, on occassion we have stayed at other places we keep coming back to Cove Point Lodge. The views of Lake Superior are fantastic, the service staff friendly, and if you go during "value time" or "quiet time" the room rates are great. Every room has a Lake Superior view and the views are stunning. They are not blocked by buildings or trees. Depending on how much money you want to spend there are various room options with different ammenties, from state rooms with whirlpool tubs, to standard rooms you cannot go wrong. The beds are comfortable and the sound of the waves hitting the shore is very relaxing. Cove Point is 100% smoke free so you never get a room that smells like stale smoke. Every room we have stayed in has had a DVD player, coffee maker, microwave, and small fridge. The Scandanavian style continental breakfast is good too.

Cove Point is in a good location for many outdoor activities. There are many hiking/cross country ski trails and state parks in the area. If you drive twenty or so miles inland there are numerous lakes with access points and small docks to canoe and fish. I believe Cove Point has kayaks and canoes for guests to use on Lake Superior.

There are a couple reasons I cannot give it 5 stars: the restaurant can be hit or miss; some of the rooms have feather pillows and some do not; they do not offer hair conditioner. However, these short comings are minor and they do not keep us from staying here, year after year.

I had a destination wedding here, and it was fantastic. All the guests had a great time. We got married in front of the large fireplace. We had filet mignon for the reception dinner and it was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. The beautiful scenery made for amazing wedding photos.

There was not one aspect of this hotel that we could criticise - it is a wonderful place that we would highly recommend.

Situated right on the shore of Lake Superior, approximately 50 miles North East of Duluth, the hotel offers stunning views over the lake with most rooms facing the lake. The hotel is reached down a steep drive which may be challenging in snowy conditions.

Rooms are excellently appointed and have good en-suite facilities, tea/coffee, large TV, fridge and everything to make the stay enjoyable. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool.

The bar/restaurant area boasts a blazing fire for most of the year, with excellent service and food at reasonable prices. A selection of games and books are available for guests to enjoy.

There are some nice lakeside walks from right outside the hotel room and the hotel loans kayaks for guests to enjoy the lake. Warning - the water is freezing!!

Overall one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in and I would recommend to anyone.

My spouse and in-laws booked one of the cottages for a few nights this December. The cottage was very new and in excellent condition. Two spacious bedrooms and a nice bedroom loft--all with their own flatscreen TVs. Nice gas fireplace, brand new kitchen appliances, and charming northwoods themed furniture. The three queen beds were very comfortable. Nice views of the lake. Friendly staff at check in. Didn't eat at the restaurant. We got the off-season rates in December. It'd be out of my price range if we came in the summer, but when you consider the quality and luxury of this place-- prices are fairly competitive.

My only complaint: a poor selection of television channels in the cottage. Otherwise, this is an impressive property!

These people took care of us when another hotel in the area
botched the job. We were given great cabin lakeside for the price of a standard room. They saw how badly we were treated elsewhere and wanted to rescue our vacation. Nothing but good things can come from a trip to this resort. A customer for life!
