“Our Perfect Week at Al Husn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2011

Our perfect week at Al Husn

Firstly I would like to say how lovely (well how lovely any economy 7 hr flight can be) our flight from Heathrow to Muscat was with Oman Air, Food, space, service and entertainment first rate, I hate to say it (as its my national airline) but leagues above BA.

Well now for our week at Al Husn. I know this hotel has had some rave reviews on Trip advisor, But we can honestly say that this was the best vacation we have ever had, everything was perfect, from the moment you pull up at their impressive front door, Two doormen opening the car doors for my wife and I and bell staff to take your luggage from the boot, all done so perfectly it was like a well practiced routine of understated elegance. To the very warm welcome by one of the Managers; Marlon, and his staff who led us into the Beautiful cool and calm entrance foyer, Beautiful ceilings, marble, wood and large gold leaf palm trees in a very attractive water feature, The smell of frankincense fills the air and the wonderfully scented cold towels were much appreciated. A short walk through thickly carpeted wonderfully smelling corridors and a cooled and wonderfully scented lift whisked us to our third floor room, A deluxe Sea View where the check in was performed and a welcome drink supplied. All done in no time at all; and very slick and seamless but gracious too, Best check in we have ever experienced, They noted small things like date of birth on passport, just passed my birthday by 2 days, wished me happy belated birthday, Latter that day a Birthday card arrived and the most lovely chocolate mousse birthday cake.

Well that was the start of a week that we felt was nothing short of sensational, greeted by name everywhere we went, and treated like Royalty for a week, you every anticipation was met, attention to detail was first rate, there is obviously a lot of work going on behind the scenes to make it all work like precession Swiss watch, Our request after a beautiful dinner in the Sharazad restaurant in the Al Husn Hotel was to ask how far it was to the Piano Bar in the Al Bandar Hotel, well we were accompanied to the entrance of Al Husn; and then transported in a lovely upmarket Golf Cart their Club Car to the Al Bandar Hotel, The ride in this buggy was lovely in the night air with beautiful landscaping and subdued lighting. A very short walk with doorman from Al Husn leading the way to the very tastefully decorated piano bar only to be greeted upon entrance by name and with such hospitality you felt like life long friends!. You just knew that a phone call had gone on ahead of you from Al Husn. As I said lots of work going on that you never see but just feel the benefit of all their hard work to make your stay extra extra special. (We took lots of these wonderful buggy rides)

We cannot rate this place high enough, and it is one of the very few places that we both said without a hesitation we would return to in a heartbeat. I know there are plenty of nice places in the world, but I know the next holiday we go on; if not at Al Husn we will be comparing and I know they will not match up to Al Husn. Please feel free to email me if anybody requires any further information.

By the way the earlier review regarding Crepe Suzette was inaccurate with regard to pricing, we tried them on our last night at The Sultana Restaurant and they were excellent and a lovely showpiece performed in front of you with such flair. So they were not £70.00 plus per person as mentioned in earlier review on Trip advisor but OM 15.00 rialls for two people as stated on menu specially prepared at your table for two people. Yes not cheap at this exchange rate, But your are on holiday, you wont eat them every night, and what a lovely desert it was; in a first rate restaurant prepared with first rate ingredients that I imagine are not that easily or economically sourced as they would be in London or Paris for example.

And upon returning home we read in Saturday Telegraph magazine Ultra travel that this hotel was awarded “The Best Beach/Resort Hotel in the World” Well we have to agree with them, we are still dreaming of that perfect week

Thank you to all Managers (George and Marlon) and Staff everyone was lovely Thank you, Hope to see you all again soon.
One last thing "toilets" how to judge any hotel the toilet area's around the pool were lovley, Clean, air-conditioned and as everywhere a wonderfull smell.

We stayed in Shang for 2 nights and it was amazing! They have beach with breathtaking views and a very nice pool area. We were at the 4th floor so we have the pool and the beach view which is incredible! Staff are friendly and helpful---always anticipating our needs. Water sports are offered however, we missed the kayaks because the waves were rough when we were there. Nice variety of breakfast buffet selection which is included in our room rate.
Only small problem we had is that, they only have a pair of elevators in one side and our room is located far end near the fire exit stairs. So everyday we have to walk like 3 corners of the building to reach our room. We dont mind walking a little bit but if youre doing hiking and all in some wadis and fort, its very tiring.
Overall, we enjoyed our lovely 2 nights and hopefully we will come back again. Will do recommend to some friends for sure!

We went there on our Honeymoon in August and had the best holiday of our lives so far.

The staff were attentive, unobtrusive, helpful and very very pleasant. As befits a multinational chain they had staff from all countries where there are other Shangri La Hotels as well as local Omanis. This added a lovely element to the hotel as it allows you to form a personal relationship with the staff who you see on a daily basis.

I think it would be useless adding more superlatives to the previous reviews as lots has been said about the wonderful standards at the Hotel.

My wife and I could not have asked for anything and even though it was Ramadan we actually enjoyed our stay immensely. Ramadan meant that the hotel was uncrowded, the roads relatively quiet and service unhurried.

The weather whilst hot was very enjoyable. Even if you are hot the complimentary cool boxes at the pool side will ensure you are not hot and bothered. Finally if diving, try to get the on site dive centre to take you to the Al Munasir wreck which on a nice day (as it was when we went) is a brilliant dive with massive schools of fish, great areas for access tot he wreck and no currents.

As on the punchline, FANTASTIC and very very very highly recommended.

this hotel is absolutely lovely..... the best thing about it was that they had a "no under 18s" policy which meant its great for couples...
sea view room is a must....
breakfast was great...
the beach is lovely too but the sea can get pretty rough at times
overall the prices for dinind in are a bit pricey but there are plenty of nice places to eat out of the hotel... the service is top class and they will bend over backwards to accomodate all your needs .... we will go back for sure

The hotel is beautiful, the air conditioning superb, and the staff very attentive, but this is probably not the time of year to go. The temperatures were very high, and while it was bearable sitting beside the pool, it was too hot to eat or even sit outside in the evenings, which was a shame. The restaurants are excellent, particularly the fish restaurant. Not surprisingly, the hotel was very quiet, which we enjoyed. Sadly the turtles didn't hatch while we were there. The hotel operates a 'turtle watch' alert, whereby if the turtles hatch, they will phone you to let you know, so you can come and watch them head to the sea - that would have been awesome!

We enjoyed our 10 night stay here but were ready to come home at the end. There was nothing wrong with the hotel, but it didn't have the wow factor that we were looking for. It all seemed a bit sterile. The pool was quite small and could be noisy. The food was very expensive and just average quality. The room only had 4 hangers when we arrived and hardly any storage space. They didn't provide turndown service on 3 of the 10 nights - no big deal but it shouldn't happen in a hotel of this quality.
The best thing about our stay was the 3 hour spa treatment we had - one of my top 5 massages and I always visit the spa on holiday.
Overall a nice stay but we have been to much better hotels in Dubai so wouldn't go back.
