“Great Family Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

We stayed here between Xmas and New Year. We had 2 interconnecting rooms overlooking the pool area on the second floor. Rooms were clean. Was a bit of mould in shower, but, not dirty. Breakfast buffet excellent. The buffet restaurant in the evening was not bad, however the one at the adjacent hotel was much better - a bit extra, but much more choice - the more Asian influenced buffet restaurant, with lots of vegetarian options, sushi etc... The Italian restaurant near to this was also pretty good. All in all a good resort hotel for families with kids - beware are LOTS of kids running around = very kid-friendly. Pool area great - need to get up early to reserve your spot... Aircon a bit noisy during night, so put it off at night. Not that close to centre of Muscat - always about a 45 minute drive.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor had no problems. Our friends right opposite pool on ground level and they...

We went for three nights amazing hotel. Friendly staff.the best breakfast we have ever had in the bandar hotel. So many kids activities. They take care of you on the beach with water, ice, watermelon, cold towels, they even offered to clean our sun glasses :) lazy river is a must. The whole experience was amazing...

Room Tip: Breakfast in bandar.

Resort - worth stating that the resort is made up of three hotels of which Al Waha is the 'family' one. If you are intent on a very adult/ couple secluded break head to the other hotel Al Husn,as families and children are present everywhere in the Al Waha.

However don't feel that this distracts from a stay if you are a couple - we stopped here and, as well the the restaurant selection, great secluded location, beach and sea views, one of the most fun memories was floating around the lazy river!

Our initial contact with the hotel - friendly, welcoming (especially as we were rather 'desert battered' when we arrived), set the tone for our stay: relaxed and contented. Staff were quick to resolve some issues - again setting the tone for the great service.

Rooms - solid and quality furnishings but slightly bland and corporate if you want something more exotic and luxurious (i.e not boutique style).

We had a one bedroom suite with a sea view - (3149) great space, double balcony, full of amenities you would expect. Being able to hear sea sitting out at night - very special. Would recommend that sea view option for any room as pool view rooms will just overlook pool and other rooms of hotel, suggesting that you could be anywhere.

We hired a car - as hotel is set away from anywhere and gave us freedom to explore at our leisure. Roads great to drive on. Hotel does offer a shuttle service but freedom of own car was priceless experience.

Great for a long weekend to get away from it all - close to Muscat for a taste of the exotic; enough at the resort to keep you occupied. Had all the amenities you would expect for 5*; great, welcoming service makes it 'excellent' for this review.

The Shangri La is located about 40 mins from the airport. It's a beautiful resort. Located right on a sandy beach. The rooms are very spacious and well appointed. The views are amazing. The staff is very friendly. I will be back

After three wonderful nights at this resort, what can I say is that it was one of my greatest resort experience ever. Excellent service, various dining options, amazing sights and many activities to do. I definitely recommend this hotel for weekend family break.

It is somehow far from the city centre, it is better to consider renting a car.

Room Tip: Each room has a balcony that face the pool or the sea. Some rooms can face both.

We visited in Nov 12 with two kids aged 12 & 13. The beach combined with the vast pool area provided great entertainment for the kids. There is a broad selection of restaurants from traditional Middle Eastern to tapas and pizzas and the restaurants are generally good. Rooms are clean and well equipped. Although the resort was nearly sold out, it didn't feel crowded at all. The hotel also organizes various travels/excursions well. Front desk service was exceptional. If you want to explore rest of Oman (or Muscat) it is easy to organize a car rental through the hotel.
Spa is pricey but very nice. The location of the hotel is somewhat secluded (provides for beautiful scenery though) but not too far away from Muscat proper.

It is an excellent hotel with everything to spoil you. The service is superb and the location is very beautifull. The food is very good with a wide choice of everything. Even if you arrive later, there is still choice of everything.
Swimming pools are excellent. Beach kept clean.
Daily there is a free bus service to the Souq in Muscat.
But the prices for food and drinks are also very "good". If you have done a tour in Oman and learned the "normal" food and drink prices in Oman, than you nearly fall from your chair if you see what they charge you. If you are 2 for a couple of days it is feasable. But everything is multiplied by 3 to 5!!
Without a car or without taking a taxi, there are no possibilities to go eating something out of the resort.
