“I would go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW

This is found at the end of a rutted and narrow road but is worth the journey because the setting is lovely, staff are in the main friendly and helpful and our room was excellent (a semi-suite of two rooms).
The meal we had in the evening was a bit pricey as the portions weren't huge but breakfast was good - we had a great table by the window overlooking the ocean.
There's a great guest lounge, reasonable pool with a small sauna and the whole place feels cosy and relaxed. We had a cream tea in our room and I loved just sitting by our patio doors looking at the view.

If you are the type of person who likes top class service, excellent food, a touch of luxury and an amazing location, this is the place for you. The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The chef and his staff provided food fit for a King (and Queen !) and it was of very high quality and deliciously tasty too ! The Restaurant had wonderful sea views seen through panoramic floor to ceiling and wall to wall windows. Our room was large and very comfortable with fabulous sea views as well. Overall a superb experience in terrific surroundings.

This is the place to get away from everything. Even in a dark October, the position was fantastic. This is a low-profile mostly single-floor hotel almost on the cliff edge over looking a small cove on the south Devon coast. Access is advertised as challenging - well the last 100 yards are a bit rough (not the Hotel's fault), but the journey is worth while. The hotel sits with a very deliberately low profile in it's own grounds. Parking at the rear is a bit rough, but adequate. There is an indoor pool - warm, clean and an adequate size. Food is very good; breakfast excellent with plenty of choice; an evening meal with a daily "special" and a good representational wine list (try the local English wine from Devon - it really is very good). There is a large lounge with picture-window views over the cliffs to the sea (as does the dining room) and (on a good evenings) spectacular sunsets.
Rooms are large, mostly accessed from a long corridor running the length of the building, with the usual facilities and if you are at the front a small sitting-out area accessed through patio doors (not entirely private, as a path passes by and is used by other guests. The on-suite bathroom was good (very hot water), but perhaps a bit tired-looking and lacked shower gells.
Slightly hidden away is a small bar (no view at all); but drinks can be ordered from the lounge/reception. There is also a small cafe which is designed to cater for walkers.
Staff are all very friendly, but service at times (restaurant) can be a bit sluggish.
The down side is the main entrance... more London Underground than 4-star hotel - a rather strange and slightly off-putting approach to the hotel reception (beware steps).
We enjoyed our stay - particularly with a three-for-two nights deal (see website), but overall thought it was possibly slightly over-rated at 4-stars.

Room Tip: Go for one at the front with a sea view.

Thank you for taking the time and leaving such a detailed 5 star review. Indeed our location is incredibly special, no matter what time of year our view always impresses. Our 3 for 2 offer was indeed a view popular deal and I hope that after such a enjoyable stay we can welcome you back again.

Such a well hidden stunning location as you arrive off the lane. Hotel is modern and has such fabulous views!
We had a very comfortable room with lovely sea views and it's own little patio. Well appointed with a modern bathroom, would like some lighting around the dressing table to do makeup though!!
All the staff were very friendly and professional, nothing was too much trouble! The food was a gastronomic delight- best presented lobster we have enjoyed in a long time - and scallops to die for!!
The champagne bar is nice and we sampled the cocktail menu (great evening!)
We even enjoyed a swim, having the lovely warm pool to ourselves!
Thank you all for a delightful stay that we will remember for a long time!

The location is amazing, very friendly & helpful staff, swimming pool is very clean & warm. The room was large & we did pay extra for a sea view room and definitely worth it. Restaurant & bar area is stunning, food in the restaurant was amazing & fresh. The only thing that i found very disappointing was the bathroom... needs updating asap in my opinion (as a director of a construction company) particularly the shower. As we had paid £230 for 1 night including dinner & breakfast i think you should expect better than a very outdated bathroom.... i have stayed in a £40 a night Travelodge with much better bathrooms. I am not criticising the hotel or its staff in any way as we enjoyed our stay, with everything apart from the bathroom being excellent.

Thank you for taking the time and leaving a review. I’m so pleased to hear that many aspects of your stay were very positive. Indeed some of our bathrooms need a little TLC, we have already refurbished many of our bathrooms and we are looking into finishing the final few in the near future. I’ll be sure to congratulate the staff on looking after you so well.

Fantastic weekend at the hotel. Staff were friendly, extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble which helps when travelling with a young baby. Food was delicious, adventurous and filling! Rooms were very large, clean and modern. Bar and lounge area were cosy and pool was warm and inviting. A really great hotel and thoroughly recommend. Looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Sea views rooms were stunning!

This was our fourth stay here we had a sea view room. The rooms are a really good size with lovely decor & had everything we could want, even to supplying a jug of fresh milk each day. Nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast choice was good, fresh fruit, cereals, english cooked breakfast & fish dishes. In our experience the food here has always been good quality & never cold as a previous guest has suggested. We took our dog & love the fact they really are a dog friendly hotel & the stunning walks from the hotel are numerous. Love the ambience & the whole area & will return as soon as possible
