While my husband had never been to a B&B, I have been to a handful and this was by far the best! He decided that he would "give it a try" for our 10-year anniversary and he was pleasantly surprised (he thought he would be "uncomfortable in someone else's home"). We plan to make B&B's our lodging of choice going forward, now that he knows how wonderful the experience can be.
From the moment we arrived, the innkeepers, Lynn and Patrick, were incredible. Lynn is a master in the kitchen - her afternoon cookies were wonderful and her breakfasts were out of this world (especially her spicy bacon - we all agreed that it should be a daily staple it's so delicious!). Patrick took us on a tour of the beautifully restored 125+ year old home and we were amazed by how warm, cozy, and spacious it is. We were surprised by how much there was to do on site! Indoor activities included board games, books, a large HDTV, and lots of places to just sit and relax, while outside there were numerous lawn games to choose from (bocce ball, horsehoes, etc), as well as darts, a fish pond (where you could feed the fish or even use the fishing poles to catch and release), bicycles, a hammock, and beautiful cherry orchards to stroll through. The landscaping is incredible and the deck is HUGE! We got lots of great pictures of the grounds.
Our room (the Amon) was small but very cozy and suited us well. The bed was comfortable and we loved the complimentary Aveda products. No stone was left unturned in assuring that our stay was exactly what we were hoping for. When it came time to plan our days, Patrick was a wealth of information - he knew everything there was to know about the area and had many great suggestions for us. We loved that they had menus on site for the majority of the restaurants in the area.
We even took advantage of their being members of the Grand Traverse Resort one morning before breakfast and went over to the health club to get a workout in - all at no charge. There is also a very nice pool/spa there we could have used and many discounts as well. That was an added bonus we weren't expecting!
Overall, we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend the Country Hermitage!
