“I'm not sure if I'm at a Marriott or Fairfield Inn.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012 via mobile

When you stay at a Marriott you expect more, but not at this location. This property is located in the heart of Troy on Big Beaver Road.....great location to Somerset Collection. Services is average, attitude all around. Rooms look semi-remodeled but bathrooms still are a disaster. Restaurant is a mess, got seated with food all over the floor.

Thank you to all the staff at the Troy Marriott. This is an exceptional Marriott. One of the cleanest hotels I have ever been in. The morning Natasha takes care of the lounge as if it were her own home!!! (Did not use lounge in evening). The front staff made sure we were comfortable. Housekeeping keeps the entire hotel spic and span. The beds are your typical Marriott beds - great! Free covered parking. Easy on - off to parkway and 5 minutes from Somerset Mall. All at a very reasonable price. This will be my go to hotel when we are in Detroit.

Room Tip: Asked for room away from elevator and motors - wish was granted.

We stayed at the Marriott from November 15 - 17 for a shopping excursion. Check-in was quick and friendly. Room was clean and hotel was spotless. Breakfast buffet was very good, especially the quiche. The only problem was the next day the quiche was not on the menu:( You could order off the menu or choose the buffet including in our package. Very close to Somerset Mall, Nordstrom Rack, Loehmans and Nordstrom Rack. Bahama Breeze just down the street. Hotel offered happy hour and had excellent wings. What impressed me most was the friendliness of staff. Everyone from the servers, workers and wait staff went out of our way to be helpful and friendly. Looking forward to our next stay!

Room Tip: Higher floor (16th floor) was a bit warm.

This hotel is in a great location within lots of great shopping and restaurants. I have stayed here on many occasional over the years.

The rooms are in need of true renovation. Wallpaper peeling, carpet not real clean and furniture so so. Not the true Marriott style or signatiure.

The check in was slow so I had to leave and come back after meeting without early check in as requested Only one person at the desk. They were nice enough to chill some items I had brought.

The breakfast buffett was deliciousl and the service was fantastic.

The room smelled musty when we checked in. The hotel could probably use a renovation. The pillows were not very comfortable. I also left my phone charger in the room and came back a couple days later to get it, and I was told that it was not found in the room. I was given a charger out of their box of chargers, but it was still a little disappointing.

Travelling from Toronto, A girlfriend and I stayed here on Sat Oct 20 - Sun Oct 21 for a shopping trip. We were skeptical at first given the perception of Detroit, however very impressed and happy we made the decision to stay here. The lobby is absolutely gorgeous, clean and has a very modern touch of decor. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The elevators are quick and the rooms are meticulous. They even include a sauna light for extra warmth. The sheets are freshly laundered and very comfortable! I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again in the future.

Stayed here on a Saturday night. Was given early check-in. Being Marriott gold status the conceirce lounge was closed for the weekend. Was cheerfully given a free buffett breakfast with the loung being closed. Also, given a coupon for a free drink and snack. None of this offered at the Pontiac Marriott. Front desk check-in was very quick and friendly despite the hotel being soldout with a hockey tournament in town.

Very nice hotel that you won't regreat staying.
