“Convenient location, average room and decor.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

The decor is average, however, it's getting a full remodel so I won't discuss it much. We had called and made a phone reservation for a king. When we checked in, we're assigned a Murphy bed room. The hotel desk clerk was eager to remedy the situation and got a king room with a half-view f the bay.

We stayed o two nights and took advantage of the ease of wingers one night for drinks and appetizers. While not a hip place, or a place a foodie would want to be seen dead in, the service was friendly and the fried cauliflowers were tasty.

The indoor pool was nice and clean. The treadmill was also clean and in working order. Nothing to complain about.

We will be back since its so easy to get to downtown from their location. We are eagerly awaiting te remodel as well and will be back.

Room Tip: Go for a ay view.

“Restaurant review only”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

I was recently at the Holiday Inn in Traverse City for a business meeting where dinner was served. The meal was poor, at best. The service was good, but for a group our size, they should have had a 3rd server. During the social hour, only cash was accepted and it was necessary to pay for individual drinks rather than running a tab. Overall, there are better places in Traverse City to hold a business meeting.

“did NOT "stay impressed"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

We stayed a night here for a wedding and were quite disappointed. Not only was this hotel outdated, it was EXPENSIVE. And this place is NOISY! I knew it had a club, and our room wasn't right over it so I thought we'd be good, but we still heard the bass pumping. The walls are so thin I heard the gentleman next door PEEING! Not just the sound of the toilet flushing, but his actual urine hitting the toilet. They say they are renovating, but I don't see how they can get away with charging as much as they are for such a lousy place.

Room Tip: the higher the better. VERY noise on second floor.

“Prime location, disappointing decor.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012 via mobile

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here because there wasn't much else to choose from at the time. We had a west room on the fourth floor. The view at the end of the hall was all water, and beautiful. Our room view was of the west parking lot and the bay. It was pretty decent. The room itself was very clean, but so very dated. It was a disappointment. There was no feeling of being pampered or of luxury, which I expect for 200.00 a night. The room amenities were limited to a single serve coffee pot, which is fine. A small fridge would have been nice. The flat screen tv was nice. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean but again, very dated. We were awakened on our second night to yelling going on in the parking lot, probably from the sports bar. It went on for several minutes so I called the front desk. She said someone else had already called and they would send security. The group went back inside within a few minutes. We did not use the restaurants or pool so, we cannot comment. The location however is within walking distance to shops and restaurants.
Overall, the stay would have been much more relaxing and enjoyable, had the decor felt more upscale. The place has great bones, and will surely be a pleaser after the remodel.

“Hotel needs help”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Had a trip to Traverse City, to see our daughter who is out there now. Stayed at the Holiday Inn, since we wanted one of the waterfront hotels. It's on the waterfront, and therefore close to the restaurants and shops on Front St., but there is not much else good to say about it.

No way I will ever pay this much ($199) to stay at this hotel again. This hotel needs a makeover in the worst way. Carpeting throughout is filthy. Check-in was polite and quick, but headed up to our room to find that we had been assigned a 2nd floor room that looks directly onto the roof of the first floor, and a wall -- that was it. Hard to believe that this was the best they could do for a Priority Club Platinum. "Complimentary room upgrade?" Hardly. Carpeting in the room was dirty -- kept my socks and/or shoes on at all times as I did not want to walk on the carpet in bare feet. not sure that the room had been vacuumed before we got it. Bed was so-so. Plenty of room in the room, but only one small chair, and the desk chair, so no way even the two of us could sit down, other than on the bed.

Hallways dingy with terrible carpeting also.

The pool was very shallow. Hard to do any exercise swimming when you are literally hitting your knees turning around in the shallow end (3 feet). Ridiculous metal circular stairway down to pool from 2nd floor fitness center (which was well equipped, though). Otherwise, long walk to elevator and back to pool.

Got a certificate at check-in for "free breakfast." Get to the restaurant and learn it's 1) for only one night; 2) for just one person; and 3) for only one specific breakfast worth $7.00, or anything else up to that. Did not include drink. I mean, come on, how cheap can you get -- a free breakfast that isn't even for the 2 of us in the room? Seriously? Pretty Ridiculous (especially considering the other choices like Hampton Inn, or even Holiday Inn Express giving free breakfast at much cheaper room prices.

I will admit, though, that they had fantastic hash browns.

Now, there are signs up which promise that the hotel has a big renovation coming up. We'll be going out to TC again, but HIGHLY unlikely we would ever stay here again. If you want waterfront, stay someplace else.
