“Rustic luxury in Traverse City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2011

We have wanted to stay at Tamarack Lodge in Traverse City for several years and decided to go in early March to take advantage of the cheap rates. Obviously, the optimal time to stay is in the Summer, but every season has its own beauty in Traverse City.

The location is fantastic. It is lakefront and just minutes from downtown. The view from the penthouse is gorgeous even when the lake is frozen. We stayed in the Junior Penthouse Suite. The quality is top notch. The finishes are luxurious. The suites are a nice mixture of rustic and contemporary. They have none of what I refer to as the Northern Michigan stark white, "old lady" look complete with wallpaper and poofy valances.

The houselcleaning was terrific. These are time shares and if you stay for several days, you will need to pack essentials such as detergent for the dishwasher and salt and pepper. Otherwise, the kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pots and pens and coking utensils.

I cannot give the resort five stars as there is no pool, spa, restaurant or gym. However, this is one of the nicest places to stay in the area. It is clean, modern, well maintained and nicely decorated. The best rates are on the off season and the high season in the Summer should be avoided if possible.

I have stayed many times at this Hotel. It is beautiful. If you want all the comfort and convenience of the "Cabin Up North," without the hassle of maintenance and cleaning then this is the place to be!

The lobby features a 58 inch TV that they play movies on every Friday night. There is a 24 hour coffee bar, and a pool table with free pool, also available 24 hours. There a bar to sit at, but it is not staffed. The hotel also offers a variety of free family friendly DVD's for free rental to your room. The staff is friendly and attentive as well.

Each room is really a condominium. They offer a number of combinations of room layouts and amenities. All condominium rooms though have bay front balconies, fire places, large bathrooms with luxurious walk in showers. Also, each unit offers a full kitchen complete with all utensils, plates, and glasses.

Each stay has given me a refreshing nights sleep, and comforts of home. In a setting that is unique to Northern Michigan! If you want to fully experience Up-North waterfront living, this is the place!

Only reason not a 5 star is lack of restaurant, pool on site. These are GREAT condos overlooking a stunning view of the bay, nice beach, right on the strip with restaurants. We rented a 3 bedroom, 3 bath for couples who then went on a wine tour (see attractions). The living room view is stunning as is the master bedroom. It was quite comfortable with fireplace, large flat screens, wireless, dvd player and games, a pool table in the lobby with nightly bon fires and treats like chili or apple crisp. Northern Michigan woodsy furnishings make this an authentic get-a-way for families or couples or business. Lack of indoor pool might make it more limiting for kids, though the beach would be great in the summer and right across from mini golf course. Red Mesa grill, one of our favorites, 5 blocks down the road for GREAT Mexican food. The winery tours make this a destination spot, on top of the views and great restaurants. We shall return.

Everything is perfect here - the room, the luxury, the view... We had a fantastic condo with all the extras - two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a jacuzzi in the master bedroom (with a great view too!), a fabulous kitchen, a balcony. Great place to be and fantastic value for your money!

Not one negative thing I could say about this place!

We just got back from a weekend of golf in the Traverse City area. I went with my Dad, my brothers and a family friend. Traverse City has some outstanding golf courses, and even the smaller/lesser known courses can be real gems. The Tamarack Lodge was a great place to come back to and unwind a little after golf. The rooms are immaculate, and the kitchen really is "fully equipped". I think the only complaint I would have had about the place was that it was so quiet and peaceful it sent us to bed early every night. It really is a great place to stay, but if you're looking to explore the Traverse City nightlife at all you may be better off staying at a regular hotel.

great location on the shallow east bay which is great for kids. would consider Tamarack Lodge to be upscale. the rooms are fabulous with great views of the bay. provides for exquisite views of the sunset over the pennisula which seperates the east and west bays. close proximately to downtown Traverse City. available for rent and can also buy fractional ownership shares

Wow, were the first words out of my mouth when we entered the condo. A beautiful view of the bay caught my eye immediately. Everything a person could want or need, right down to the corkscrew to open the wine. Evenings by the fireplace watching a plasma TV after coming in from the beach was sooooo relaxing. Beds were so comfortable and
the bathrooms very clean. Kitchen, even though we didn;t cook much, was excellent.
Fully equiped with just about anything you could possibly want. Appliances were excellent as well.
Our stay was too short and you can bet we will be back.
