We decided to splurge on our monthly girls night out, as one of our friends received a long awaited, deserving promotion in a downtown restaurant. We were out to celebrate and expected to spend a bit more than usual. We were dressed casually, but professionally, as it was Friday evening and we had met almost immediately after work. As we arrived, we were greeted as we came in and asked if we had a reservation. Without making a reservation, as this is Traverse City, not New York City, we didn't expect to need one. The "hostess" was snippy immediately. It was as if we had offended her personally. She rolled her eyes, and said " It could be a while before you are seated." Being that I am known for being critical of the customer service approach in any industry. I was ready to leave, at that point. My good friends reminded me that we were here to celebrate and I should not let this one person ruin my night. I agreed, and thought since the restaurant was known to have an excellent wine list and a top notch menu, I would be rewarded for my patience and understanding. I let it go. Finding out later, this would be my undoing. After spending about 15 minutes literally standing around, ignored, we offered a booth in the bar area. It would be another 10 minutes before we were acknowledged there. By the time we were finally seated in the dinning area, which wasn't all that busy, we had been leered at by a creepy older guy at the bar, eye-rolled by the hostess, and ignored by most of the staff. Talk about being ready to leave in the beginning, by this time I was downright appalled. The only person who made any kind of eye contact was the creeper in the bar. When our server did arrive, she was distracted and seemed like she really didn't have time for us. She spoke directly, only to one of us. After she quickly took our orders and scooted off, we were left with water to drink until our meal was served. The food which was not quite cold, but not exactly warm when it got to us, was pedestrian at best. As we waited, now seeming like an eternity, for our check, the creeper found his way into the dining area. He was hoovering, to some extent, around one of the servers. Wanting to get the heck out of there, we flagged her down. She brought our check out almost immediately. Even though she was not our server, we did get a chance to talk to this girl for a moment. We found out our original server had left without alerting us, and the creeper was actually her boss. I do not find it necessary to answer the question "will we be back?"
