We spent three nights at the Cherry Tree Inn in February 2012 and really enjoyed it. The rates were very reasonable and the service excellent. We had selected one of the smaller units (Elk Rapids Studio), but it was still a large corner room with two queen beds and a great view out over the bay. Check-in was very smooth, and they had fresh cookies, tea and coffee waiting for us. The room was clean and large. There is some signs of wear on the carpet and in the staircases, but I understand they are in the midst of doing some upgrading, too. The beds are very comfortable. There was a nice flat screen TV (although I don't watch TV, so can't comment too much about it) and free WiFi access that worked well. They offer a free shuttle service, of which we took advantage for one trip to a local restaurant where we planned to have drinks without worry of driving,
Breakfast is served every morning and is generally Continental with one warm dish, either eggs and sausage or biscuits and gravy. The pool was popular with children, but not a place where I could swim laps. An outdoor pool is scheduled for this summer.
Overall, while this is not a luxury hotel, it is nice, clean and with a level of service that exceeds one's expectations at the price.
