“Excellent experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

Had lunch here with family, during recent visit to Traverse City. If I lived in the area, this restaurant would definitely become a favorite. Had a difficult time making a decision on which
beer and pizza (wide selection of both) to order, but staff was very patient and graciously offered advice and free tastes of several beers. Price is reasonable and atmosphere comfortable. Worth the short drive if you are staying in downtown area. Only disappointment was that we didn't make it back there during the rest of our stay.

“Go for the pizza, stay for the beer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

We loved the location of this restaurant, in an old train station by a lake with beautiful views. The beer was excellent, we tried a flight and we not disappointed, in fact, we ate there twice in three days. The pizzas are very thin and cooked in a wood-fired oven, perfectly made to order. One night they had live music, which was fun.

“great beers, service needs be sorted out!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

Very impressed with the beers they brew. About 15 selections on tap, tried 6 and they all were from very good to excellent! Food choice is quite limited. It is italian type pizza. They call it flatbread, very thin crust and a bit of toppings. Not your american pizza pie. Very tasty!
Disappointing was their "service". You have to pay for your order at the entrance, grab a number flag, then sit and wait for your food. If you want another beer or more food, you have to leave your table and go to the register, and order. This annoying routine gets additionally messed up by random "waiters" who pick up your glasses, dishes, and number flags, not having any idea if you just finishing your last beer, or still waiting on your food... They really need to organize this thing...

“Cool place for pizza and beer.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013 via mobile

Staff was friendly. The restaurant was in an old railroad station. It was "pub style" service which meant you ordered at the bar. We had hummus and chips for an appetizer. it was pretty good, but i dont know if i would order it again. We ordered the build your own pizza. The pizza was thin crust and very good. My kids loved the pizza. The beers were good, too. I recommend the sampler.

“Excellent lunch and location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

Right off the bat, I liked this location for it's use of an old train depot. My impressions got better has our experience progressed!

The filling station certainly has a limited menu....flatbread pizzas, and a handful of salads. And beer. Definitely the beer.

The pizza is made in a true wood-fired oven. There is a gas line to the oven, but the staff said that is only there as a "back-up". Indeed, there is a supply of wood that is put in the oven and burning to provide the heat for the oven. While certainly not New-York style pizza, the pizza itself was very tasty. My wife and I split a pizza loaded with some sausage, tomatoes, garlic, and a roasted red pepper oil brushed over it. This pizza was very, very good. Our kids split a simple cheese pizza, and thier enjoyment of it coudl be measured by the fact that there was nothing left.

The beer selection (all brewed on-site) was excellent. What was nice about this place, as well, was that if a "sampler" was ordered, the customer could choose which ones to sample. Again, a nice touch. The staff was also very well-versed on the different types of beer on tap, and were very helpful with recommendations.

The overall train them was a nice feature, as well..from the wooden train "table numbers", to the metal and wood train-shaped beer sampler holders, everything fit in very well with the rail lines outside.

The views of Boardman Lake were excellent. It was a bit chilly for us to be sitting outside, but I see how having a meal and/or beer outside in full view of Boardman Lake would be quite enjoyable.

No doubt, go here for a good beer selection, and some very good flatbread pizza.
