“Watch the sunrise on Grand Traverse Bay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2014 via mobile

The beach and view make this hotel "very good". The beach view rooms have balconies. The rooms are clean. The bath products are surprisingly upscale. The pillows need an upgrade as does the lobby. The bar was packed but we did not go there. Best rates are from the hotels own website.

We had enjoyed all the wine and sights of Traverse City. It was getting early evening and we need a palce to stay. After checking a few motels on US 31 and all being $100 and over. We stopped at the Park Shore. The rate was $ 89/ per night. After the AAA discount it was $89 after taxes. The room was very clean. This is a motel that will get a return visit from me and my wife.

Room Tip: For a few dollars more you can get a bay view room. We had a side room ,due to the fact we wanted a...

We appreciate your visit to the ParkShore Resort and the comments you mentioned. I am glad that your room situation was corrected and while I am not sure why the coffee maker in your room took so long to brew, we do have complimentary coffee in the lobby 24 hours a day. We will share your comments with the rest of the staff so we better serve every guest in the future.

The Parkshore Resort was a very nice place to stay. It is right on the beach and the suite we had was spacious and lovely views. The hot tub looked like it needed a resurfacing. It was a bit older than other places in the area and it showed. The sofa in the living area had a burn whole that looked like it had been from a cigarette even though we were in a non smoking suite. But these were pretty minor things. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the fireplace!! It was a lovely stay.

Pay high dollar for no continental breakfast, dryer out of service, & dirty color hot tub. Made reservations in May and would have cost me more than a person walking in that day!! They dropped their prices and didn't inform us. I called them to get their prices and then they gave me a refund. Only perk was listening to the waves on the beach!!

The park shore resort is a few miles from downtown, so if you are hoping for that, this isn't the place. This is the place to walk right out of your hotel room and go to the beach. The hotel has a restaurant and a bar with a great happy hour. If you are hoping to stay on the beach, look no further.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at the ParkShore Resort and our beach, which is groomed daily. We are just 4 miles to downtown and still close to other attractions that Traverse City has to offer. We hope that you can return to Traverse City and come back to the ParkShore.

First off, would I go back?
Probably.
We went with another family and had a good time - the beach was clean, water perfect, and the people there were nice. Lots of families, and party people - in my opinion, a good mix, since we were looking to have our 3 year old have some fun, and maybe having a few drinks. I saw I was not the only dad with a beer and their daughter in the water! :)
So, what's the problem?
Two things:
1. We had a reservation for a first floor beach room, and was told that we did not once we got there but were still charged that rate. There was no "comp" or anything to but "sorry" once we were told this. We confirmed it by phone, and was asked, 'who confirmed it?" I did not know that it was our problem to get the person's name as well that worked there. We tried to get responses by email, but did not receive any about our reservation. And, when I mean a "comp", I am not looking for a free room or anything, but maybe a breakfast buffet or something? (a family of three would cost them under 20 dollars)
I am realist and know this was the busy season, but it is bad practice, plain and simple.
2. The beds and pillows were horrible. I have never complained or even noticed that in any hotel stay I have ever been in. For some reason, the mattress gave me backaches and the pillows were a joke. This seems like a small complaint, but when your sleep is affected on a trip, it can wear on you. Also, the swim towels in the indoor pool were non-existent unless you went right when it opened. The pool was cloudy, but I chalk that up to people going in with sand still on them and it didn't really affect our swimming.
And, for the price you will be paying, it will burn you a little a more.
So, overall, would I go back? Yes, with a group. No, if it's just our family. We will definitely shop around for next year.
If you have a family and are think about going, triple check your reservation and maybe bring your own pillows at least.
