“Average Hampton Had a couple of problems but got fixed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2009

Average Hampton Inn. Clean, and comfortable. Had a problem with the hot water but they fixed it after about a week of complaining. Breakfast was the same as anyother Hampton Inn. One morning the milk was sour. What a way to start the day. LOL it happens.

This facility doesn't quite compare to other Hamptons. A bit dated, slim breakfast, light shower pressure, and if you are on the highway side - VERY noisy. Even the fan didn't drown out the traffic. However my room was clean and the bed comfortable. There is a sports bar next door within walking distance for food and drink.

Nice hotel. No problem with road noise. Good breakfast. Staff very nice and available to help and answer all questions. Nice lobby/eating area with flat screen LCD TV, computer, internet access, and printer. Up to Hampton standards. Stay here and drive a mile or so south to the Grande Mere Inn for good food!

To be honest I really stayed here to get some Hilton points. As far as Hampton goes it is not as good as the other Hamptons I have stayed at.

Negatives:
- Poor cellphone coverage
- Noisy
- Internet connection keeps dropping
- Poor breakfast - very oily food

Positives:
- Clean
- Decent staff

  • Liked — Nothing really

We were looking for a hotel fairly close to South Bend for a football game. The rate at this Hampton sounded fair and they did not have a multi-night minimum.
This hotel was a pretty typical Hampton, and we have stayed at lots of Hamptons. The room was clean, the furniture was in good condition, and the complimentary breakfast was very good. The desk staff was very professional and courteous.
My primary complaints were two factors having to do with noise. First, the hotel is very close to I94. I prefer a very quiet room at night, but because we were so close to I94, the constant overnight traffic created kind of a low pitched rumble that reminded me of the sound of jets taking off near an airport. Second, the room heating unit succeeded in keeping the room at the correct temperature, but the unit cycled on and off very often. This, combined with the traffic noise, resulted in a night of off and on sleep (although my wife slept fine).
This hotel would have been fine if it were located farther from the Interstate; however, I would probably not choose to stay here again.

  • Liked — Relatively close to South Bend with no apparent upcharge or minimum nights on football weekend.
  • Disliked — The overnight noise (not people noise) that interfered with my sleep.

The outside walls are paper thin so bring earplugs with you.
Two light fixtures in my room were not working and the staff would not fix them. Also on the 3rd nite of a 4 nite stay the air conditioning went from cold to warm and again the staff would not even check it for me.
The rooms are generally nice but the mechanical and plumbing systems need some work and the staff will not repair anything for you. On top of this they raise the rates for the big festival in July to $139 a nite.
The free breakfast is good and pleanty but that is not enough to make up for the price increase and the poor room conditions.

  • Liked — Breakfast was very good
  • Disliked — Attitude of managers towards hotel conditions

The room was pretty small, smaller than most hotel rooms and about a fifteen minute drive to the beach in St. Joseph. No built-in closet, just a free standing one. No exhaust fan in bathroom and only one sink, both of which presented a problem for the three of us. The beds were fairly comfortable and the staff was accommodating as they could be. There was no mini fridge or microwave in the room and no hot tub at the hotel. Upon arrival I had told the front desk person that I did not want my credit card charged and that I planned to pay with cash. After paying with cash, I went home to find that my bank account had also been debited the entire amount. Upon contacting the hotel, the manager was polite but not very helpful and told me it would take 3-5 business days for it to come off of my account. I don't understand why it was still charged when I paid cash and no one informed me at checkout that my card would still be charged. It doesn't seem that the staff has been very well trained with check-in/check-out procedures. If was a clean hotel but for the price you didn't get much. In the future we will try to find a property closer to St. Joseph with a larger room and more amenities.

  • Liked — The beds were comfortable.
  • Disliked — Location to beaches and no fridge or microwave.
