“Pretty Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2006

This hotel was nice. The staff was friendly and accomodating.

There is a Pizza Hut nearby that delivers, but since they already seemed overpriced compared to other Pizza Huts I've been to, I recommend making the 3 minute drive to pick your pizza up.

About 10-15 minutes from Michigan's adventure which is worth it because the hotel's closer aren't all that great.

The hotel's internet/computer in the business center was down for our whole stay, which was just one night.

Pros: Nice staff; dining discounts for Priority Club members; indoor AND outdoor pool; boat rental and lake view; clean and spacious rooms.

Cons: No outdoor hot tub; indoor hot tub does not get very hot; exercise equipment is limited and EXTREMELY OUTDATED; overpriced restaurant with limited selection.

This was an average hotel, but it seemed clean, with the exception of the dingy pool area, which is the most important thing. Overall I recommend it, especially compared to others in the area.

  • Liked — Clean and comfortable
  • Disliked — Hot tub wasn't hot and exercise equipment was very old

We just got back from spending a Friday night at this property. I was there with my two daughters for a dance competition in Muskegon, but the Holiday Inn in downtown Muskegon was full, so I chose this hotel. I don't understand why there is such a big discrepancy between Holiday Inn properties. Why does this property have three stars? I was disappointed to see that this hotel desperately needs a renovation. This older hotel reminds me of a Day's Inn. The entire building is dimly lit. The smell of smoke in the small lobby is overwhelming when you enter the building, because the bar is right around the corner from the front desk. The two hotel elevators are cramped and rickety. All the carpet in this property needs to be replaced. There was no ice bucket in my room and no ice machine on the second floor. The balcony off my room needs to be cleaned and repainted, along with the chairs. The second floor smells like smoke, although there is no smoking on this floor. Lots of older yacht owners in the restaurant , which was the nicest part of the hotel. Food was mediocre pre-packaged Gordon's Food Service fare , especially the cardboard tasting waffle french fries served with all dinners, but it was served promptly. As a Priority Club member, I was given a 25% coupon for dinner, but I had to remind my server to apply the discount. I was also given a coupon for breakfast, but breakfast service on the weekend didn't start until 8:30, which was too late for us. Service overall in hotel and restaurant was prompt; staff is very young but eager to please. My rollaway bed and extra blankets were delivered promptly to my room (I did leave a tip). Bed mattresses are thin and worn. There are only two double beds or a king bed in the rooms, no queen beds. The two indoor and outdoor pools were a good size, but even the indoor pool water was cold. Free wi-fi throughout the entire hotel provided by a local wi-fi company, but the service was down when we were there. Fortunately our stay was brief, and we were happy to leave.

  • Liked — Proximity to my final destination.
  • Disliked — Cleanliness, room size, lighting.
  • Tips/Secrets — Recommended that this property be avoided unless absolutely necessary.

While this hotel was mostly clean, there definitely could be some improvements. The wall paper is peeling, the windows are filthy, and the carpet is sketchy. The biggest complaint was the a/c unit. It was incredibly loud and ran intermittantly. The room was a decent size as was the bathroom - though the tub needed a cleaning. I don't think we'd go back - especially for $160/weekday night. The pools were nice, and food at Jacks (for dinner) was ok.

My family (including 3 and 5 year old boys) was not very happy with this property. The beds were very uncomfortable with soft mattresses and very hard foam pillows. The restaurant was terrible: burned pancakes for breakfast, unripe vegetables for dinner, tasteless in general--but very overpriced as hotel food tends to be. The indoor pool was closed for repairs--and the pool was the main reason we choose this property. Very overpriced at $110. The upside was that the staff was very nice and it was fun too look at the boats in the surrounding marina.

When on business in the area in the off-season (October through April), this is my hotel of choice. The rooms are comfortable, and the free wireless internet access is an added plus. Two drawbacks--the hotel restaurant is not open on Sunday evenings for those who arrive late for business on Monday, and there are not many other restaurants in the area. Another is that the hotel is located on a state highway, and making a left turn to get back to Grand Haven/U.S. 31 in on a weekday morning can be a problem, especially in bad weather.

The hotel was situated just over the bridge from Grand Haven. There was quite a sharp right turn into the hotel from the road which meant a dangerous left turn over a very busy two lane road to get back to Grand Haven. We stayed at the hotel with a 5yr old, 4 yr old and a 2 yr old - altho' very quickly realised that most of the hotel (and bar) clientele were middle-aged and owned yachts. (Yachts were moored directly outside the hotel). We complained three times regarding noise of air vent system in the bathroom (room #411) but nothing was done which sort of spoiled our stay. All in all, hotel was good, on the more expensive side and I would say not entirely suitable for families.
