“Troy, MI Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2014

We (party of three) all ordered pasta dinners because we aren't deep dish pizza fans. Our meals were excellent, and the servings enough to take out and have food for our lunch the next day. I am giving this a 4 instead of 5 because our waitress needed some training. She wasn't friendly, never smiled, and I noticed she interacted the same with all the customers in her assigned area. The places is kind of dark, and as another customer wrote, "the decor is a little tired." We will go back when we are in the area.

“Detroit Style.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

This is a great place for all kinds of food, but the deep dish pizza is the best. Sometimes it can be overly greasy, but it's only happened once to me. The decor is a little tired but the service is pretty good. There are games(arcade, claw, etc.) to keep kids amused and a clown that comes occassionaly on the weekends. She makes balloons.

“My favorite pizza in Michigan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

I've been going to various Shield's locations since I can remember. Their deep dish pizza and antipasto salad is my favorite in Michigan. My only critique is a while ago they change their salad from romaine lettuce to the iceberg garden mix, but you can request all romaine for an extra charge. If you go during the week you'll probably never have to wait for a table. The staff is great and very attentive.

“Disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

After being recommended this restaurant by our hotel, we were excited to try it. In short, it was hugely disappointing. I found the pizza to be bland and burnt. I would not go back here again. Maybe we were there on a bad night but first impressions are everything.

“Sad and disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2012 via mobile

This used to be one of two places to go for Detroit-style pizzas in our area. Sadly, no longer. After a so-so antipasto salad, our server had to apologize that the pizza was too burned to serve, so we had to wait until another was prepared. The toppings (pepperoni and Italian sausage) were overly spicy. But the real disappointment was that the center of the pizza was not really hot, just warm, while the crusty side parts were as they should have been right out of the oven. And the toppings and cheese were a little dry. How is that possible? I began to wonder if perhaps the pie had been pre-baked and then finished to order. Whatever the reason, we're sorry to cross Shield's off our list, but there's better pizza to be had a few miles away. That may explain that a lively sports bar/restaurant was all but deserted on a weekday evening when the Tigers were on all the TVs in the restaurant. Everyone else was eating pizza a few miles up the road, buddy!
