We have been going to South Haven for "mini-vacations" since 2000 and even though I had driven past, knew where it was, and thought it looked very nice...I always assumed it was "too costly". I had looked "on line" but I assumed the comparable priced rooms (to Hotels) had to be less than suitable. Boy was I wrong!
After staying at yet another inn/ B&B in the area, in early June, and again not 100% satisfied, my wife and I decided to "tour" a few other B&Bs. While most, but not all, were more than willing to allow us to look around and tell us prices, the Sand Castle turned us loose. They said something to the extent of "all the rooms are open, look around and come back with any questions." We looked at every room. We checked every balcony/ patio or side porch...(I THINK they all had one.) We found nothing wrong, or un-kept, or in poor working condition.
We decided that we liked the first floor, (we are getting old), the King size bed, and the 1.5 block walk to the beach. But this was the room that was the same price as the local HOTELS!!
Lots of ROOM!! Handicapped accessible bathroom, while not needed by us, meant that it was quite large. Some B&B's the room is large and the shower is almost as small as on a cruise ship.
We booked in for the 2nd of July, didn't realize that we had an off street parking lot as well!! We used the pool, walked to beach, drank the coffee, sampled the candy/ cookies and the breakfast...we had already gone to breakfast, came back and wished we could eat again!! The buffet for breakfast looked great!
We found our place to stay in South Haven, it is the Sand Castle Inn! My only concern is that they realize they could charge much more for the rooms and still be competitive!!
It takes a quality staff to have a place like this!
Bottom line-- "Best Bang for the Buck"!
