In real estate they say location, location, location and the Askwith Lockview Motel has it. The people are nice, the breakfast is adequate, the rooms are clean, just undistinguished and over priced($) for a weeknight in September. I guess if you want to walk across the street in your jambes to see the boats pass thru, then they are your best choice and they know it. I didn't see any obvious deferred maintenance, just a lack of updating. From my point of view, when you pay $100 for a room night in a tourist town, do it up nice.

I used to work in the Hotel industry and you can always tell at arrival if your stay is going to be extraordinary. The parking lot was SPOTLESS, beautiful hanging flower baskets were everywhere, the Reception area was well maintained - then I found out we were staying in one of the cabins "oh no" I said to myself. We get to the room and I'm blown away because it was the quality of the big hotels I've worked in. A great size two seater dining table, big bar fridge, and two queen size beds - I had also read a review that the bathroom was an awkward layout - everything was in a row - there was no awkwardness. It was right across the street from the Locks, and walking distance to many restaurants - make sure to check out the Palace - good food, awesome prices and friendly staff. And did I mention the sunsets are amazing!!

The Lockview is across from the Soo Locks with clean rooms and a nice breakfast that includes more than just sweet rolls and coffee, Bagels, Toast, English Muffins with egg, sausage and cheese, hot and cold cereal and more. Also near many good restaurants and shops. I've always had a good stay here.

We spent a night here on our trip to the Upper Peninsula. The location was perfect, directly across the street from the Soo Locks. Check in was easy and the clerk gave us a few tips about nearby restaurants. Our room was in the hotel part of the facility. The bed was comfortable, the room had a refrigerator which was a nice touch. The bathroom was not as clean as I would have liked. There was a rather thick layer of dust on the edges of the floor. Additionally, the hotel does not supply shampoo and the bar of soap was so thin that it broke into little pieces with one shower. The continental breakfast was very nice.
