“nice place, nicer service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2009

We decided to wait the 25 minutes (on a weekday) for a table on the patio.
The funny thing, the inside was empty! We were guided to our table and promptly served drinks from the host.
We prefer vegetarian meals, and had several questions about the preparation of the meals. The server was knowlegable about almost everything--the manager came to the rescue and helped us create the best pasta EVER!!!
The wine list seemed to follow the menu. We were encouraged to try some of the new wines (by the glass) and we were 'enlightened' on the drinking of red wine with seafood theory. We are now Malbec fans!
We would definitely suggest the Mermaid to try some new experiences!

P.s. they are dog, child, and alternative lifestyle friendly--for those who read the previous reviews!!! Some people???

“Great Food, Great Service, Great Experience!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2009

We had a delicious dinner out on the patio, our server was as sweet as can be & very timely with service, she was very helpful with info about the area, really enjoyable experience. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone! The view of the water & the boats was so relaxing. Best place to eat while on vacation!

“Worth a Visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2009

Just dined at the Mermaid on a recent visit to Saugatuck.
It was a gorgeous day and we wanted to sit on the patio...so did everyone else!
We had a short wait...but it was worth it, as the food was wonderful!
The Portabella fries are amazing...served with a spicy/ranch!
I tried the Cabresse Salad and it was as beautiful of a salad as it was delicious!
A friend had the Mahi-mahi Tacos and it was exceptional as well.
Service was spot on!
Only complaint was the bees that were furiously attempting to attack all things sweet on our table, it could have ruined our meal it we let it!
Enjoy the treat by the water!

“Great view but that's about it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2009

The Mermaid offered beautiful atmosphere overlooking the Kalamazoo River. However, we weren't impressed with the rest of dinner. We felt more like tourist bait than guests at a nice restaurant. The seafood pasta had random different types of pasta combined. Wine was decent. Salmon was nothing to speak of. Overall, better to have drinks while enjoying the view and go elsewhere for the main course.

“Nice outdoor dining experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2008

My husband and I enjoyed our lunch experience very much here! The service was great and the sandwiches were tasty. The tossed side salad consisted of real greens, not the tasteless iceberg stuff! The only negative thing that I can say is that the patio tables are kind of close to each other. The big patio table umbrellas almost touch each other but at least there's good shade when eating. I recommend eating at this restaurant over Marro's or the Boathouse!
