We decided at the last minute on a Friday morning to spend the weekend in Saugatuck. I spent the morning surfing the net and working the phone trying to find a place to stay but everything was booked solid. (Some inn-keepers even laughed when I called to ask if they had rooms for that night!) Not the Hooten Inn. The owner called one of her guests to make sure the guest was still coming in that evening (she was), then went on-line herself (to [--]) to see what was available and made some recommendations. I still had no luck (the listings on saugatuck.com are not always current) and was about to give up when the Hooten Inn owner called me to say she had a last minute cancellation. What a nice thing to do! The outside of the Hooten Inn looks simple, but the rooms are exceptionally clean, freshly painted, and decorated in interesting themes. The high quality linens and towels were a nice surprise. The Hooten Inn isn't grand but I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. And the owners know how to make a guest feel welcome.
