We just spent a wonderful weekend at the Hooten Inn. The accomadations are great! Well worth the money! Had everything you needed and it was very very clean! The owners are very nice people and could not have been more accomadating! I would stay here again and again! It's less than 5 minutes from town and more than half the price!

We stayed at the Hooten Inn while on a weekend getaway to Saugatuck. We chose it based on the reviews in Trip Advisor, but also because the fancier places that were highly rated were already full.

Overall it is good value for the money. While other "cute" B&B places in Saugatuck are about 50-100% more, the Hooten Inn does the job if you just need a clean, uncomplicated place to stay.

The upside: definitely the price & the management. We paid $99 for a night--making a weekend in Saugatuck more reasonable than the typical $200/night B&B stay. It is also very clean, but again, its a very simple accommodation. The walls are freshly painted and each room is furnished according to a theme. We stayed in the safari room. I wouldn't say the theme-thing is worth staying at this place, but it imparts a kind of funky-feel to the place. The theme thing seems to work well enough, although to me it is just on the border between "tacky" and "sort of cool." Other plusses: the management are very helpful and clear in their communications with you...I'd say they are a plus. Very keen to make sure you have a good time in Saugatuck.

The downsides: My only complaint about the accommodations is that there is carpet in the bathroom and when the shower is on, there is a slight moldy smell in the bathroom....as if the carpet has been wet before. The management are so good that I would bet they would take care of this after reading this review! They strike me as those kind of people. What else? The motel is located right on the Blue Star Highway, so it can get a little noisy. I can also understand (after reading reveiws posted below) that this could be a bummer of a place if you had noisy neighbors. The walls are not thin, but since it is like a drive-up motel, if people are noisy outside the room it could be unpleasant. We had no problems. There were other couples sitting outisde their rooms quietly talking and everything was fine. No noise, no hassle.

Bottom line: this is a good place if you have simple needs. If you are looking for a cute shi-shi place, I think you should spring for another accommodation in town.

  • Liked — Good price in a expensive area
  • Disliked — Slight moldy smell in bathroom when water is on, steam in bathroom; Bed a littel soft

What a fun and creative place to stay for couples who just need an affordable place to sleep and shower while roaming the beaches of Saugatuck, Douglas, Holland and Grand Haven.

My husband and I needed to spend some time together while taking it easy, and we loved the friendly service and themed rooms - we stayed in the Roman Room.

Not recommended for luxury lovers - no bathtub, but perfect for outdoorsy couples who just need to pop in once in a while to freshen up and then sleep at night in comfortable beds. Little refrigerators are a plus for vegetarians who need to bring along their own food. Right along a bike path too!

My husband and I stayed there in June of this year. We stay here, every time we're in Saugatuck., which is a couple of times a year. We've enjoyed our stays here very much. We love the uniquely decorated theme rooms and we find the owners are friendly and very helpful. The Inn is within walking distance of a very good Bar & Grill and just across the street is a wonderful spa. You can even walk to downtown, if you so desire. Just let the owner know what you're interested in seeing or doing, and she'll setup appointments or reservations for you. The owners provide the type of service that is normally only provided at bigger hotels. If you want a comfortable, clean, relaxing, and above all, affordable place to stay, it's the Hooten Inn..

My partner and I just got back from a long weekend in Saugatuck staying at the Hooten Inn. For the price, you can't beat it. The rooms are comfy and the bathroom was tidy and functional. The owner was very friendly and helpful. In three minutes (in the car) you can be in downtown Saugatuck. Four minutes to Douglas and 10 minutes to Oval Beach. The only downside is that you are right on the Blue Star Highway. Kinda noisy during the day, but relatively quiet at night.
