“Awesome little motel in best location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

Great location to just leave your car and walk to everything during your stay. Recommend if you have a big group or boat. Stay here if u want the best location. Many updates to this old gal, pool deck is the latest upgrade, in room bathrooms need to be next, but it's still the sweetest location around.

We have stayed at this place a few times or the past few years. It's basic but has a nice pool. But, this year, they have raised weekend and holiday prices to over $200 a night. This is simply not a $200 a night hotel. There are far nicer places in Saugatuck for less. Everything is worn and dated, the rooms, the floors, the bedding, the towels, etc. The pool towels are basically hand towels; it takes three of them to cover 3/4 of a lounge chair. They are thin and worn. The screens on the window have huge cracks around the edges, the rooms almost always have varous bugs that are included at no extra cost. A typical $200 a night room comes with a couple of bottles of water, not here. The AC runs constantly, no thermostat and the rooms smell musty.

We just checked into the Ship' N Shore in Saugatuck last night and we very pleasantly surprised. The room is clean and has a great view. The bed was very comfortable last night too. The pool and hot tub are totally beautiful and so warm that my family was able to go in during the brief rainstorm this morning! As soon as it gets nice out, we're gonna lay by the pool and enjoy the boats going by for the holiday weekend, then walk downtown!!!

The ship n shore has alway been a favorite for us when visiting Saugatuck. The owner and staff is always delightful and very helpful with our needs. We love the new pool and hot tub. The view is amazing. I look forward to our next visit in July!!

Room Tip: Love the second floor, but there is not an elevator.

I don't mind staying at a place that isn't as updated as most....as long as it's CLEAN. I found TWO different types of bugs in my bed and was forced to drive back home - about 45 minutes away - to sleep in my own CLEAN bed. After showing the night time front desk attendant one of the actual bugs I had killed and explaining the situation, he proceeded to tell me that it was "normal for a place near the water to have bugs" and that "we see this a lot". No, I'm sorry, not under a couple layers of blankets/sheets in bed next to me...that's NOT normal. Needless to say, I will not be staying there again and will not recommend it to anyone!

Basic 1965 motel. Newly painted doesn't mean renovated. Great location. Wish they would have mentioned that heated pool was still closed and that town is basically shut down until June 1st for "season". Could have spent my $120 a night somewhere else.

We are regular Saugatuck visitors and thought it would be nice to stay a night before heading back home to MN. We've always stayed during summer months, but never at Ship N Shore. Location is their greatest asset. Everything else is very average. I'm sure the pool and view of the river is awesome when it's warm outside. Like I said....Wish they'd mentioned it before I paid upfront for the night.

Rooms are clean, however. Generic toiletries and average grade towels. Simple upgrades would make this place spectacular, but apparently, they dont have to do much here.
