“Outstanding weekend getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2007

We have stayed here twice, on weekend getaways from Chicago. The rooms are very unique and quite enjoyable. Our first time, we were there in November, and stayed in the Orleans suite. The second we were in the Tuscany Cottage - a detached cottage across a small courtyard from the main building. Both had exceptional, themed decor, and wonderful, large whirlpool tubs. My fiance loved the canopy bed in the Orleans suite. Breakfast was simple, but quite tasty, and in a basket in our mini-fridge, so we could eat it at our leisure.

We haven't been to Saugatuck in the high season (Summer), but the town was nice and quiet during November and December, and the latter brough fantastic sales in the little boutiques downtown, a block from the property. We are looking forward to our next trip back - perhaps to a differently-themed suite, such as the Kilimanjaro one!

  • Liked — Hot tub! Plus, wonderful, themed decor
  • Disliked — Leaving "earlier" (i.e. before 11am) for the day. Not unreasonable, I know!

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend in August and just loved it. First off it was one of the only properties in Saugatuck we found without a 3 night minimum stay. In addition it was the only quality place that was offering a room for under $200.
The room, San Juan suite, was enormous. It included a kitchen area, big living room, nice bathroom (jacuzzi tub, Gilchrist and Soames products) good size bedroom, a fully stocked magazine rack and dvd player (you can check out dvds for free at the front desk).

It's location was perfect as well. Located right in the center of town, it was very convenient for us to go out to eat and shop on Saturday.

I would recommend this place to anyone who was heading to Saugatuck.

We spent two nights in the San Juan suite. We couldn't believe it when we walked in and realized it was a full-size one-bedroom apartment. The decor was very cool (caribbean theme) and the jacuzzi tub in the bathroom is one of the largest I have ever seen! The owners were great and made several wonderful recommendations on places to eat and see. You are right in the center of the "downtown" area which is great for walking to restaurants, shops and the marina. And you are only a 5-10 minute drive from Oval and Douglas beaches which are absolutely gorgeous. We had a great time and would definitely go back!

Hidden Garden Cottages is the best non-waterfront location in Saugatuck, you’re only 1 or 2 blocks a ways from all the restaurants. Our room (the San Juan Suite) was better than advertised. It was spacious, clean, and had a full kitchen. We skipped the free continental breakfast – there are several nice coffee shops in the immediate area. Hidden Garden Cottages also provided us with an excellent list of restaurant and nightspot recommendations. The accommodations, convenience, and price can’t be beat. If you’re traveling to Saugatuck, there’s no better place to stay than Hidden Garden Cottages!

  • Liked — Location
  • Disliked — TV was small and picture was dark
  • Tips/Secrets — San Juan room has a large two person whirlpool in the bathroom.

We came here for a 4 day honeymoon right after our wedding. I loved relaxation and quiet of a beach town in the off-season. You get the same great place but all to yourself! The rooms were beautiful and we had the quiet and privacy we wanted. We'll be back!

We just returned from a four night stay at "Hidden Garden Cottages". This is a beautiful place to stay for a romantic getaway. It is very private but close to all the shops etc. We did not have to use our car at all. The property has a wonderful landscape with fountains and gardens that are very peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed our private patio with a glass of wine in the evening and our coffee and fresh muffins in the morning. My husband and I are planning to return in the spring. I highly recommend "Hidden Garden Cottages" Kathleen & David Indianapolis, Indiana.

My wife and I spent a night here while doing the Southwest Michigan Winery Trail and celebrating our anniversary. I read the reviews but didn't know quite what to expect, as this was our first B&B experience (the kids just left the nest). Turns out I had nothing to be apprehensive about.

As the other reviewers state, this charming place is located in downtown Saugatuck, but you would never know it after you close your doors. We stayed in the San Juan suite and it was beautiful! Truly original works of art, plenty of free snacks (including fresh fruit and muffins for breakfast), Kona coffee in the morning, and a two person whirlpool that was out of this world.

Our host Gary was very helpful and informative. We inquired about a good choice for dinner and he was happy to oblige, sending us to Douglas (5-7 minutes away) where we had a wonderful dinner and met some great people.

If you go, don't miss sunset at Oval Beach....one of the most breathtaking sites I've seen (and we just returned from Key West).

Thanks, Gary! We will return.
