“I have no idea how this restaurant in still business!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

Apparently, the owner of this restaurant has no interest in actually serving the customers food(that is why people come to a restaurant, fyi) We waited over an hour and 15 minutes(with 3 children) and only were served drinks. The coffee was so disgustingly weak and they actually ran out of orange juice! We nicely asked the waitress when our food was going to be ready, and she said they hadn't even started it, there were 2 orders in front of us. No one ever came back to ask if we wanted more drinks. When we told the waitress we were leaving, you would think they would be apologetic but seem to be more arrogant and proud that this bad service is their business model. You would think they would have good service and comp the lousy drinks but we still had to pay for it! We saw others who also gave up at Pumpernickels, where I would definitely go there instead.

We will never be back, but if you choose to go here, I suggest you clear you calendar for the day, eat a full breakfast before you go, bring a picnic basket full of food, and pick up a coffee at uncommon grounds. You might even consider a tent and a blow up mattress to make your wait more comfortable.

Hmmm. . . Let's see . . . These folks were at a popular restaurant, in a tourist town, at the tail end of the Fourth of July holiday. People with undisciplined kids really ought to go to Burger King.

“Good food but s...l...o...w service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

Between the atmosphere and the food, you can't beat this place. Charming surroundings, unique and delicious menu items, but long waits accompany this. Even after you are seated, there are delays in getting your menu, getting service, getting your food, and getting the bill. I would highly recommend this place if you are in no hurry to do anything. But if you have an agenda for the day, you might want to consider a faster venue where you can get your food in a timely manner.

“Wonderful Breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

Love to come to Ida Red's while visiting Saugatuck. It's not fast food so don't be in a hurry. Small and quaint. Food is good so if you don't want to wait, go early. Love their muffins, fresh, fresh fruit salads. Omelettes looked fantastic. Good coffee and service. Worth it!

“No! No! And No!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

For a place that calls itself Ida Red's Cottage and is only open 5 days a week from 8AM to 2PM, you would think that breakfast would be their specialty and it would be damn good. After all, people wait up to an hour for a table.

We waited 30 minutes but worse, we waited more than an hour for our food. Why? They only have two line cooks and it's like the staff doesn't care about service. Now get this:
No egg whites.
No egg beaters.
No waffles.
No real pancakes (only multi-grain that tastes like leather).
No real maple syrup (amazing but true).
No substitutions for any egg dish.
No turkey bacon or sausage.
No oatmeal.
No kid's menu.
Oh, get this, no hash browns. Only deep fried cottage fries.

The waitress was mean and the only words were "no". Coffee is awful but NO food or drinks allowed inside. So suffer with bad coffee while you wait an hour for your food.

Better yet, do not come here.

Our little place is not for everybody, and that's the way we like it. We don't want, or need, customers like this.
