“Nice beach to chill with friends”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

Probably the best beach in Niterói, better than most of Rio famous beaches. The problem is the distance from Niterói downtown. It's good for sightseeing and making friends, better for younger people (<30). Avoid it if you can't stand the smell of marijuana lol.

“A secluded spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

its a nice place, but my visit was on a rainy day that made the place seem different, not many people were there, its similar to copacabana by the look, the water is not that clean, at least it seemed so. but the view on the far side is very country like, the small hills and a few house on those make it look as if you are in some far off place.

“Rainforest, beach and beautiful homes!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

The lucky few that like at Itacoatiara beach have got it right - no buildings allowed - All houses have tropical gardens with the beach in front and a rainforest hillside at the back. There are a few grourmet kioks as well for those that wish to enjoy lunch or diner listening to the sound of the waves!

It's a clean beach, good for bath but sometimes dangerous. The view is great and there are some rocks you can climb or get to the top by a trail. There are good places to have lunch and some guys that cross the sand selling foods and drinks.

“best beach around Rio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

It is worth to take a day trip from Rio to Itacoatiara. It takes 1.30-2.00 hours to get there from Rio's south zone: you must take a taxi or a bus to Centro (15 Novembre square) at the docks. Take the ferry and cross over to Niteroi. At the dock in Niteroi, just across the street, there is a bus station. Take bus 38 for a crazy ride to Itacoatiara beach. The bus ride is 45 mins-1hour, depending on traffic. It is crazy because bus drivers run very fast, so it feels like you re in a roller coaster some times. Once you get there, take off your flip flops and plunge your feet to the white powder-like sand and enjoy the magnificent scenery. Don't get in the water, unless you see the locals swimming.
